Indiana Pacers Need to Clean Up Their Defense
Indiana enters at 1-1 after splitting its first two games. The Pacers are averaging 114 points while allowing 120.5. That defensive number isn’t pretty, and it’s the reason I wouldn’t get too excited about laying a big spread with them.
The Pacers are comfortable playing at a quicker pace. They’ll push the ball after misses and try to create opportunities before the defense gets organized. Against Brooklyn, that approach makes sense. The Nets are going to be dealing with their second game in two nights.

Indiana still needs better defensive possessions. Scoring 114 per game doesn’t help much when opponents are getting 120. The Pacers don’t need a complete turnaround Sunday, but they can’t let Brooklyn get comfortable from the perimeter.
Brooklyn Nets Face a Difficult Schedule
Brooklyn was 0-1 entering Saturday’s game at Cleveland, having lost its opener 110-103. The Nets have shown they can compete, but seven-point losses don’t mean much if you can’t finish games. Sunday’s back-to-back makes the assignment harder.
Brooklyn scored 103 in its opener, and that isn’t enough against most teams that like to run. The Nets need more efficient possessions, particularly if Indiana starts pushing the tempo. Playing fast sounds great until you’re missing shots and giving the other team easy opportunities.
The bigger concern is fatigue. Brooklyn has to travel home after Saturday’s game and get ready for another opponent. Indiana will have the rest advantage. I don’t think that’s something you can dismiss when these teams are still working into regular-season shape.

I’m taking Indiana -2.5. The Pacers haven’t defended particularly well, and that keeps me from making this a stronger play. But Brooklyn is playing consecutive nights, and Indiana has enough offense to take advantage if the Nets start fading in the second half. At a short number, I’ll trust the fresher team. Take Indiana -2.5 or better.
Under 232.5
I’ll go under 232.5. Indiana has been allowing too many points, which makes this a little uncomfortable, but Brooklyn managed only 103 in its opener. Now the Nets have to play on tired legs. I can see Indiana controlling the game without needing to score 125. The risk is a fast, sloppy game with plenty of transition baskets. I’d rather take the under at 232.5 or higher.
