Pacers vs Wizards Key Matchups and Game Preview

These teams just played Thursday, and Washington came away with a 112-105 win as a two-point home underdog. The first thing that stands out to me is how Washington scored their points.

In one of the stranger box scores you will see this season, the Wizards scored 112 points without a single player reaching 14 points. Jaden Hardy, Kadary Richmond, Anthony Gill, Tre Johnson, Bub Carrington, Bilal Coulibaly, and Tristan Vukcevic all finished between 10 and 13 points.

That matters for a rematch because it is harder for Indiana to “take away” one player. There was no obvious hot hand to trap, no one scorer to blitz, and no single matchup to hunt. Washington won that game by playing balanced basketball and consistently getting to the rim.

The second key matchup is in the paint. Washington out-scored Indiana 56-30 in the paint, which is a massive number. If you lose the paint by 26 points, you usually do not deserve to win, and Indiana did not.

Indiana actually held advantages in the areas that normally decide games. The Pacers had a sizable edge at the three-point line and at the free throw line, and Washington still won in relatively comfortable fashion. That is usually not a great sign for the losing team in a rematch.

The series total trend is also important. Seven of the last nine meetings between Washington and Indiana have stayed under the total, and all three meetings this season have gone under.

When you see the same matchup keep landing under, I take that seriously. It tells me that one team’s style is consistently dragging the game into a lower-scoring script, and that is what Washington has done to Indiana.

Now we get to the most important part of this handicap: availability. Indiana is banged up and may be even thinner than they were Thursday.

Ivica Zubac, T.J. McConnell, and Pascal Siakam all missed Thursday’s game. In addition to that group, Kam Jones suffered a lower back injury during the game and did not return. Aaron Nesmith has already been ruled out for this one after suffering an ankle injury last night.

That is a long list, and in a back-to-back, those missing rotation pieces matter even more. It is hard to win a rematch when your depth is getting worse and the opponent is coming in confident after already beating you.

You never really know what you are going to get from Washington on a nightly basis, but I like their position here. They already proved they can win this matchup even when Indiana shoots better from three and gets to the line.

If Washington can keep Indiana in check from beyond the arc again, I believe they can complete the two-game sweep.

  • Washington beat Indiana 112-105 on Thursday as a two-point home underdog.
  • Washington scored 112 points with no player scoring more than 13 points in the win.
  • Washington out-scored Indiana 56-30 in the paint on Thursday.
  • Seven of the last nine meetings between these teams have stayed under the total.
  • All three meetings this season between Washington and Indiana have stayed under the total.

Side and Over/Under Picks

  • Spread Pick: Washington +2 (-114)
  • Total Pick: Under 231.5 (-112)

Final Score Prediction

I expect Indiana to come out with better focus in the paint, but the injuries and the short turnaround make it hard for me to trust them. Washington’s balanced scoring also travels well in a rematch because it forces Indiana to defend every action instead of loading up on one star.

  • Projected Final Score: Wizards 116, Pacers 112

How to Wager On Indiana vs Washington

The best way to bet a rematch like this is to focus on what is repeatable. Washington winning the paint battle is repeatable because it was about shot quality, not shooting luck. Indiana’s three-point edge is also repeatable, but it did not matter enough the first time because the Pacers could not keep Washington away from the rim.

When I am betting small spreads, I also make sure I am shopping for the best number. This is the type of game where grabbing +2.5 instead of +2 can matter late.

If you are building your betting card, I recommend comparing sportsbook promos and shopping the market through the best betting sites before tipoff.

You can also improve your long-term results by using offers like a Betmgm bonus code or a Novig promo code to stretch your bankroll over the course of the season.

If you are looking for more ways to bet without tying up too much cash, I also like having options with free betting apps, using a Thrillz promo code, and checking the latest Sweepstakes casino promos for extra value.
