Milwaukee Bucks vs Washington Wizards Picks and Predictions for Wednesday October 21 2026
Washington is favored by six and a half points. Against Milwaukee. If you haven’t followed Washington’s roster changes since last season, that line probably looks like somebody typed it backward. The Wizards added Trae Young and Anthony Davis during the previous season and continued building around them over the summer. Milwaukee, meanwhile, is beginning life after Giannis Antetokounmpo. The question isn’t whether Washington has better players on paper. It’s whether the Wizards can get everybody working together quickly enough to cover a decent-sized number on opening night.
Milwaukee visits Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Tipoff is at 7:00 PM ET, with coverage on Monumental Sports Network. Washington is favored by 6.5 points, and the total is 238.5. For more predictions, check our free NBA picks.
Milwaukee Bucks Have Something To Prove
Milwaukee went 32-50 last season. Not much to celebrate there. The Bucks also finished the year with a 126-106 loss to Philadelphia, which pretty much summed up their problems. The offense could have good stretches, but the defense had too many bad ones. Milwaukee has made changes, and the club is hoping a fresh start gets things moving in the right direction. The trouble is that Washington has made even bigger changes.
The Bucks were inconsistent shooting the ball last season and struggled to get enough stops. Their last game against Philadelphia was a good example. Milwaukee shot 43.3% from the floor and made 13 of 47 threes. That’s a lot of shots from outside for a team that wasn’t hitting enough of them. Against Washington, the Bucks need to be more selective. The Wizards have added size inside, and Milwaukee isn’t going to have much luck forcing everything into the paint.

Milwaukee’s offense will need contributions from several players rather than leaning on one big scorer. The Bucks have been working through roster changes, and that’s going to take time. They did beat Indiana 128-127 in their final preseason game, which was encouraging. But Washington has a different kind of frontcourt, and Milwaukee’s biggest challenge will be keeping the Wizards off the offensive glass.
Washington Wizards Have Plenty Of New Toys
Washington finished 17-65 last season and went 11-30 at home. Those are ugly numbers, no way around it. But this isn’t the same team. The Wizards have brought in Trae Young, Anthony Davis, and Deandre Ayton, and they used the first overall pick on AJ Dybantsa. That’s a whole lot of new talent for a club that couldn’t win 20 games. It also means the coaching staff has plenty to sort out.
Washington averaged 15.6 turnovers per game last season, and that’s one thing the new roster needs to fix. Young can create offense, but he also handles the ball a lot, and the Wizards can’t afford to give away possessions. The good news is the size. Davis, Ayton, and Alex Sarr give Washington several ways to protect the rim and rebound. Milwaukee could have a tough time getting second chances if those big men are doing their jobs.
Young should make Washington’s offense much more dangerous, and Davis gives the Wizards a scorer who can also defend. Dybantsa is another interesting piece after averaging 25.5 points in his lone college season at BYU. Dybantsa will miss the opener with a left ankle sprain suffered in the preseason finale. Washington still has experienced offensive options, but the rookie’s absence removes one of its anticipated rotation pieces.
Milwaukee Bucks vs Washington Wizards Picks and Predictions
Milwaukee Bucks +6.5 (-110)
I’m taking Milwaukee and the points. Washington should be better this season. A lot better, probably. But we’re talking about a team that won 17 games last year and is now trying to fit several major additions into the same lineup. That doesn’t always work smoothly on opening night. Milwaukee wasn’t good last season, either, but six and a half points is a decent cushion. The danger is Washington dominating the boards and getting easy baskets inside. I think the Bucks hang around long enough to cover.
Over 238.5 Points (-105)
I’ll take over 238.5, although this is a big number. Washington has added players who can create shots, and Milwaukee hasn’t shown much reason to trust its defense. The Wizards also have the size to get extra possessions on offensive rebounds. Milwaukee will need to score to stay close, so I expect the Bucks to keep pushing the ball rather than slowing everything down. The concern is all those new Washington pieces taking time to get comfortable. Still, I can see a game where both teams get into the 120s.
Final Picks: Milwaukee Bucks +6.5 (-110) and Over 238.5 Points (-105)
