Minnesota Timberwolves vs San Antonio Spurs Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 31 2026
Minnesota opened the season with three straight wins, and people were starting to get excited. Then Anthony Edwards hurt his knee, the Timberwolves lost two straight, and suddenly things don’t look quite so easy.
Now they’re heading to San Antonio, where Victor Wembanyama is waiting.
I know Minnesota has some good defensive players. Rudy Gobert can still make life miserable around the basket. But I don’t like the Timberwolves trying to keep up with San Antonio without their best scorer.
The Timberwolves visit Frost Bank Center on Saturday, October 31, with tipoff at 8 PM ET. Minnesota also has a Friday night game against the Clippers, so the final injury report matters. I haven’t verified a sportsbook spread or total for Saturday. My pick is San Antonio, and I’m leaning toward the Under at a suitable number. Minnesota Timberwolves Have to Find Some Offense Without Edwards
Minnesota enters Friday at 3-2, with a 2-1 road record. The Timberwolves started by beating Miami, Orlando and Toronto, then lost 127-125 in overtime to Cleveland and 119-114 to Golden State. The loss to Cleveland was especially painful because Edwards scored 47 points before his knee injury became the bigger story.
Minnesota has averaged 120.4 points and allowed 107.8 through five games. Those numbers look good, but they include four games with Edwards available. He’s averaging 33.3 points, and replacing that kind of scoring isn’t as simple as giving everybody else five more shots. The offense has to change. Minnesota can’t rely on one player to create something whenever a possession breaks down.
LaMelo Ball and Jonathan Kuminga are among the players who need to take on more responsibility. Jaden McDaniels has been averaging 15.8 points, while Gobert is pulling down 12.2 rebounds. There’s enough talent here to compete. But Edwards underwent knee surgery Thursday and is out, while Donte DiVincenzo is recovering from an Achilles injury. That’s a lot of backcourt scoring and shooting missing. San Antonio will know exactly where to apply pressure.
San Antonio Spurs Have a Chance to Take Control
San Antonio is 3-2 and has won three straight after dropping its first two games. The Spurs beat Sacramento 130-103 Tuesday and Utah 117-111 Wednesday. That’s a pretty good response to a slow start. They’re back home now, and I think this is a favorable matchup.
The Spurs are averaging 116.6 points and allowing 110. They’re shooting around 46.6 percent overall and have been doing a good job protecting the ball. The biggest advantage is inside. Wembanyama changes what opponents can do around the basket. Minnesota has Gobert, so this won’t be an easy matchup physically, but the Spurs have more ways to create offense right now.
Wembanyama is averaging 25 points, while Stephon Castle has been contributing 17.4 and Dylan Harper 17.2. De’Aaron Fox is adding 15.4 points, giving San Antonio another experienced ballhandler. Tobias Harris is out with a calf injury, and Jayden Quaintance remains unavailable with a knee problem. Those absences matter, but the Spurs still have their main scoring options. Minnesota can’t say the same thing.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs San Antonio Spurs Picks and Predictions
San Antonio Spurs Moneyline
I’m taking San Antonio. Minnesota is still a good team, and Gobert can make this a tough game around the basket. But losing Edwards changes everything offensively. The Timberwolves also have to play Friday, while San Antonio has had more time to prepare. Wembanyama is a difficult matchup even when you’re healthy. I think the Spurs have enough scoring to pull away in the second half, especially if Minnesota struggles to create good shots late.
Under 229.5 Points — Target Total
I’d look Under 229.5 if the market offers that number. Minnesota’s early scoring average is inflated by games with Edwards, and I don’t expect the Timberwolves to play at the same offensive level without him. San Antonio can score, but Wembanyama and Gobert should make things difficult inside. The danger is both teams pushing the pace and turning turnovers into easy baskets. Still, I see something around 115-107 Spurs. That would keep us Under.
Final Picks: San Antonio Spurs Moneyline and Under 229.5 Points (target total)
