Sacramento Kings vs LA Clippers Picks and Predictions for Wednesday October 21 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/21/2026, 01:00 AM ET

Sacramento had enough problems before Ben Simmons tore his Achilles in practice. Now the Kings are heading into the opener without a player they hoped would give them some versatility off the bench. The Clippers aren’t exactly a team I’d trust with my life savings, but they’re at home and favored by 3.5. That’s not a big number. It’s also not one I’m rushing to lay with a team that has had its own share of questions.

Sacramento visits Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Tipoff is scheduled for 10:30 PM ET. The Clippers are favored by 3.5 points, with the total at 230.5. Los Angeles is a modest moneyline favorite. Check out our free NBA picks for more predictions.

Sacramento Kings Have Another Injury To Deal With

Sacramento didn’t finish the preseason the way it wanted. San Antonio beat the Kings 126-97 on Friday, and there wasn’t much to like about that one. The Kings struggled to score, couldn’t get enough stops, and spent most of the night chasing the Spurs. It’s preseason, so I’m not going to pretend the result tells us everything. But Sacramento needs a much better effort Wednesday.

The Kings have to take care of the ball and get better shots. That’s where the San Antonio game went wrong. Sacramento scored only 97 points, and the offense never really found a rhythm. The Clippers can make things difficult defensively, so the Kings can’t afford to waste possessions. Sacramento also needs to rebound. Giving the Clippers extra shots is a good way to fall behind and spend the rest of the night trying to catch up.

Simmons was supposed to give Sacramento some ballhandling, rebounding, and defensive versatility. Instead, he’s expected to miss the season after tearing his right Achilles. That’s a tough break. Rookie Darius Acuff Jr. may have to handle more responsibility than the Kings originally planned. Sacramento has enough scoring talent to compete, but losing another rotation option before opening night isn’t going to make things easier.

LA Clippers Have A Chance To Take Care Of Business

The Clippers open at home, and this is the kind of game they need to win if they’re serious about staying competitive in the West. Sacramento is coming off a rough preseason finale and has already lost some depth. Los Angeles doesn’t need to do anything spectacular here. Play decent defense, avoid careless turnovers, and make the Kings work for their points. That should give the Clippers a good chance.

The Clippers have enough veteran experience to slow the game down when they need to. That’s important against Sacramento, which would rather get easy baskets before the defense is set. Los Angeles should look to attack the paint and force the Kings to defend without fouling. The Clippers don’t need to get into a shooting contest. If they can control the boards and keep Sacramento out of transition, they’ll have the game where they want it.

The Clippers have relied on experienced scorers and physical defense to stay competitive. That’s a good combination against a Sacramento team still sorting out its rotation. Los Angeles needs its primary offensive options healthy and available, because the Kings have enough talent to make a close game uncomfortable. The Clippers have the home-court advantage, but they still have to finish possessions and avoid letting Sacramento hang around.

Sacramento Kings vs LA Clippers Picks and Predictions

LA Clippers -3.5 (-115)

I’ll lay the 3.5 with the Clippers. Sacramento just got beaten by 29 in its preseason finale, and now the Kings are dealing with another injury. Simmons wasn’t going to carry the offense, but losing a versatile rotation player still hurts. Los Angeles gets this one at home and should have an advantage in experience and defensive organization. The worry is Sacramento getting hot from outside and turning this into a one-possession game. The Kings have enough scoring to do that. But I like the Clippers to control the second half and win by six or seven.

Under 230.5 Points (-110)

Give me under 230.5. Sacramento scored 97 in its last preseason game, and the Kings are still trying to figure out their rotation. The Clippers don’t need to run all night to win this game. They can make Sacramento defend in the half court and try to control the pace. The danger is the Kings getting into transition and forcing Los Angeles to play faster. But I think the Clippers are comfortable making this a more physical game. Something around 116-108 would stay under the total.

Final Picks: LA Clippers -3.5 (-115) and Under 230.5 Points (-110)
