San Antonio Spurs vs Utah Jazz Picks and Predictions for Wednesday October 28 2026
Utah is probably looking forward to catching San Antonio on the second night of a back-to-back. I get it. The Spurs have Sacramento on Tuesday, then they’ve got to fly to Salt Lake City and play again Wednesday. That’s a lousy turnaround. But here’s what bothers me about taking the Jazz. Who’s going to deal with Victor Wembanyama around the basket? Jusuf Nurkic is out, Utah has other big men nursing injuries, and the Spurs have already shown they can win on the road. I don’t think San Antonio needs a great shooting night to beat this team.
The Spurs and Jazz meet Wednesday at Delta Center in Salt Lake City, with tipoff at 9:00 PM ET. San Antonio entered Tuesday at 1-2, while Utah is 1-3. I’m taking the Spurs on the moneyline and leaning Under 242.5 points. That’s a target total, not a confirmed sportsbook number. Get into the action with our free NBA picks.
San Antonio Spurs Have a Matchup They Should Like
San Antonio hasn’t exactly been tearing through the league. The Spurs lost their opener to Oklahoma City 116-104, then came up short against Houston 114-110. They finally got a win Saturday, beating Dallas 122-106 on the road. That’s the game I’d pay attention to. San Antonio looked more comfortable getting into its offense, and the Spurs didn’t have to spend the fourth quarter trying to dig themselves out of a hole. They’ll need that same sort of start against Utah, especially with tired legs.
The Spurs are averaging 112 points and allowing 112 through their first three games. Nothing spectacular there. But Utah has given up 132 to the Lakers and 120 to New Orleans, so this is a defense San Antonio ought to be able to attack. I’d keep going inside until the Jazz prove they can stop it. Wembanyama can score over smaller defenders, and if Utah starts sending help, the Spurs should have room to move the ball around the perimeter. They don’t need to make this complicated.

Wembanyama is averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds, and his size is going to be a problem for Utah. He’s also the reason I like San Antonio’s chances of keeping the Jazz from getting easy baskets in the paint. De’Aaron Fox gives the Spurs another player who can create his own shot, although his wrist injury needs checking. Tobias Harris has been out with a calf problem, and Jayden Quaintance remains sidelined following knee surgery. San Antonio isn’t at full strength, but I’d still rather have Wembanyama protecting the basket than try to defend him with Utah’s current frontcourt.
Utah Jazz Need Somebody to Hold Down the Paint
Utah is 1-3, and the Jazz haven’t given me much reason to trust their defense. They lost 132-123 to the Lakers on Sunday, then came back Monday and lost 110-105 to Memphis. Their only win was a 120-119 squeaker against New Orleans. That’s three losses in four games, and two of them came against teams that had little trouble getting good shots. Utah can score when it gets rolling, but the Jazz haven’t been able to string together enough stops.
The Lakers put up 132 against Utah, and that wasn’t some fluke where everything went wrong for five minutes. The Jazz had trouble keeping the ball out of the paint and couldn’t do enough to slow the game down. That’s what worries me Wednesday. San Antonio has a center who can punish that weakness all night. Utah might be able to push the pace and get some easy baskets of its own, but the Jazz are going to have to rebound better than they’ve shown so far. Give the Spurs too many second chances and this could get away from Utah.
Lauri Markkanen is the guy Utah needs to get going offensively. He can stretch the floor and make Wembanyama defend away from the basket, which would help open things up for everybody else. But his availability needs checking. Nurkic is out with a foot injury, and Jaxson Hayes has been dealing with a sore shoulder. Tony Bradley and Trey Alexander have also had injury concerns. Utah doesn’t have much room for another missing big man. If the Jazz can’t put enough size on the floor, they’re going to have a hard time keeping San Antonio off the glass.
San Antonio Spurs vs Utah Jazz Picks and Predictions
San Antonio Spurs Moneyline
I’ll take San Antonio to win. The back-to-back isn’t ideal, and I wouldn’t ignore it when deciding how much to bet. The Spurs could be tired, especially if Tuesday’s game against Sacramento goes down to the final minute. But Utah has a bigger problem. The Jazz don’t have a healthy, dependable answer for Wembanyama, and I think San Antonio should keep feeding him the ball until Utah proves otherwise. Markkanen could make this uncomfortable if he’s healthy and shooting well. The Jazz can also push the pace against tired legs. Still, I’d rather trust San Antonio to get the stops it needs late. Give me the Spurs on the moneyline.
Under 242.5 — Target Total
I’m taking Under 242.5, provided that number is actually available. Utah’s defense has been rough, but 243 points is asking for quite a bit of scoring. San Antonio has averaged 112 through three games, and I don’t see the Spurs trying to turn this into a track meet after playing Sacramento the night before. They should want to get the ball inside, work for good shots and make Utah defend for a full possession. The Jazz could push this over if they start hitting threes and force San Antonio to run with them. That’s the danger. But I think the Spurs can win without scoring 125. San Antonio 118-111 is closer to what I’m expecting.
Final Picks: San Antonio Spurs Moneyline and Under 242.5 (target total)
