Utah Jazz vs Memphis Grizzlies Picks and Predictions for Wednesday October 21 2026
Utah is favored in Memphis. That’s not a sentence we heard too often a couple of years ago, but the Grizzlies have been through some changes, and the Jazz have been trying to build something that can actually win games. The number is small enough that the oddsmakers aren’t exactly declaring Utah a contender. We’re talking about two and a half points. Basically, pick the team you trust more and hope it doesn’t spend the fourth quarter throwing the ball into the third row.
The Jazz visit FedExForum in Memphis on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET. Utah is favored by 2.5 points, and the total is around 241.5 to 243.5, depending on the book. I’ll use 241.5 for the total pick. Check out our free NBA picks for more predictions.
Utah Jazz Have A Chance To Start With A Road Win
Utah has spent the last few seasons rebuilding, and the Jazz are hoping the young players are ready to turn some of those close losses into wins. They finished the preseason with a 119-116 victory over Phoenix. It’s only preseason, sure, but winning on the road is still better than getting beaten. Utah has more talent in the frontcourt now, and that could be important against Memphis.
The Jazz have generally been able to find points when their offense gets moving. Keeping opponents from scoring has been the harder part. Utah doesn’t want to get dragged into a game where every missed shot turns into a Memphis fast break. The Jazz need to rebound, get back on defense, and make the Grizzlies play in the half court. Memphis has enough athletes to punish a team that starts jogging back after turnovers.

Utah will be without Jusuf Nurkić because of a foot injury, which cuts into its size and rebounding depth. That matters even more against a Memphis club that likes to attack the basket. Jaren Jackson Jr. gives the Jazz a defensive presence inside, but he can’t clean up every mistake by himself. Utah needs its guards to keep Memphis out of the lane instead of expecting the big men to block everything.
Memphis Grizzlies Want To Make Home Court Count
Memphis has had a difficult stretch, and the Grizzlies are trying to get back to playing meaningful basketball. They finished the preseason with a 116-98 win over Charlotte, which at least gave them something positive heading into the opener. The Grizzlies have enough athleticism to cause problems, especially at home. What they haven’t always had is consistent shooting and a dependable defense.
Memphis can play quickly, but that doesn’t help much if the team is giving the ball away. The Grizzlies need to take care of the basketball and make Utah defend more than one action on a possession. When Memphis settles for rushed shots, the offense can look pretty rough. Utah isn’t a great defensive team, so the opportunities should be there. The Grizzlies have to be patient enough to use them.
Isaiah Stewart is out with an ankle injury, leaving Memphis short of some frontcourt toughness. That’s not ideal against a Jazz team that has been adding size. The Grizzlies will need their other big men to stay out of foul trouble and keep Utah from collecting offensive rebounds. Memphis has enough guards to create scoring chances. Whether the shots fall is another question.
Utah Jazz vs Memphis Grizzlies Picks and Predictions
Utah Jazz -2.5 (-115)
I’ll lay the 2.5 with Utah. It’s not a number that scares me, and I like the Jazz’s frontcourt options a little more in this matchup. Memphis has home court and enough athleticism to make this difficult. That’s the concern. But the Grizzlies have some questions inside, and Utah should be able to get decent looks if it moves the ball instead of forcing shots. This isn’t a game I’d want to lay seven or eight points in. Two and a half? I’ll take my chances with the Jazz.
Under 241.5 Points (-110)
Give me the under 241.5. That’s a big number for an opening game between two teams still sorting out their rotations. Both defenses can give up points, and I wouldn’t be shocked if the game gets loose for a stretch. But the Jazz are missing some size, Memphis has its own frontcourt concerns, and I expect both teams to have some ugly offensive possessions. It’s hard to get to 242 without a pretty good shooting night from both clubs. I’ll bet against that happening right away.
Final Picks: Utah Jazz -2.5 (-115) and Under 241.5 Points (-110)
