Anaheim Ducks vs New Jersey Devils Picks and Predictions for Thursday October 22 2026
Anaheim started the season winning four of five. Things were looking pretty good. Then the Ducks lost four straight, and now they’re in New Jersey trying to remember what they were doing right two weeks ago.
The Devils have their own problems, but at least they’re coming off a win. New Jersey beat Colorado 4-3 Tuesday night, although the Devils nearly gave that one away after taking a three-goal lead late in the third period. Jake Allen had to make 31 saves to get them across the finish line.
The Ducks visit Prudential Center in Newark on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Puck drop is at 7:00 PM ET. New Jersey is listed around -280 on the moneyline, with Anaheim at +225 and the total at 6.5 goals. Check out our free NHL picks for more predictions.
Anaheim Ducks Need To Stop The Slide
Anaheim is 4-5-0 after losing 3-2 to the Islanders Tuesday night. The Ducks gave up three goals in the first period and spent the rest of the evening trying to catch up. Frank Vatrano scored, Alex Killorn added another, but it wasn’t enough. That’s four losses in a row. Anaheim has scored exactly two goals in each of those defeats, and it’s tough to win many hockey games that way.

The Ducks have scored 26 goals and allowed 29 through nine games. That’s 2.89 goals for and 3.22 against per game. The defense hasn’t been awful every night, but the offense has dried up. Anaheim was scoring four and five goals during its early wins. Now the Ducks are struggling to get three. New Jersey has been giving up chances, so there should be opportunities Thursday. The question is whether Anaheim can finish them.
Mikael Granlund is the Ducks’ captain this season, and his veteran presence matters when a young team starts losing games. Lukas Dostal made 22 saves against the Islanders, but he didn’t get much help early. Troy Terry has been dealing with a hip injury, while Ryan Poehling is out with a lower-body problem. Cutter Gauthier has also appeared on the injury report. Anaheim needs its scoring depth back because asking the same handful of forwards to produce every night isn’t working.
New Jersey Devils Have Been Living Dangerously
New Jersey beat Colorado 4-3 Tuesday night, and the Devils needed every bit of Jake Allen’s performance. They led 4-1 late in the third before Colorado scored twice and made things uncomfortable. Allen stopped 31 shots, including 19 in the final period. That’s a lot of work for a goalie whose team had a comfortable lead. Still, a win is a win, and New Jersey needed one after an uneven start.
The Devils have been allowing too many quality chances. That showed up again against Colorado, even though they escaped with two points. New Jersey has enough offensive talent to score, but the defensive coverage hasn’t always been dependable. Anaheim has struggled to finish lately, which gives the Devils a chance to clean things up. If New Jersey keeps leaving opponents open around the net, though, the Ducks have enough talent to make this closer than the moneyline suggests.
Arseny Gritsyuk scored for the third straight game against Colorado, and Luke Evangelista returned from an illness to contribute a goal and an assist. That’s an important offseason addition paying off. Dougie Hamilton helped create a goal by forcing a turnover, while Allen kept the Devils ahead when the Avalanche made their late push. New Jersey has been dealing with injuries to Nick Bjugstad and Seamus Casey, among others. The Devils need more consistent defense, but they’re getting contributions from several different players.
Anaheim Ducks vs New Jersey Devils Picks and Predictions
New Jersey Devils Moneyline (-280)
I’ll take New Jersey, although -280 isn’t a price I’d be excited about. Anaheim has lost four straight and scored two goals in every one of those games. The Devils haven’t been perfect, but they just beat Colorado and should have the better offense at home. Allen has been good enough to keep New Jersey in games, and Anaheim hasn’t been finishing its chances. The Ducks could make this interesting if Dostal has a big night, but I trust New Jersey’s scoring depth more. Devils win.
Under 6.5 Goals (-110)
I’m taking under 6.5. Anaheim has scored only eight goals during its four-game losing streak, and New Jersey should be able to control enough of the game to keep the Ducks from getting comfortable. The Devils have defensive issues, so I’m not expecting a shutout. But Anaheim hasn’t shown much offensive life lately, and Dostal can keep the score respectable if he gets some help. New Jersey 4, Anaheim 2.
Final Picks: New Jersey Devils Moneyline (-280) and Under 6.5 Goals (-110)
