Boston Bruins vs Anaheim Ducks Picks and Predictions for Friday October 16 2026
The Boston Bruins are in Anaheim on Friday night, and I'm having a hard time finding a good reason to bet against them right now. They've won three straight, scored 17 goals in those games, and they're getting some pretty good work out of their goaltending. Anaheim isn't playing bad hockey either, but losing at home to Calgary on Tuesday wasn't exactly encouraging. The Bruins and Ducks meet at Honda Center in Anaheim, California, on October 16, 2026, with the puck dropping at 10:00 PM ET on ESPN+. Boston is sitting around -125 on the moneyline, Anaheim is +105, and the total is six goals at the line I'm looking at. I like Boston here, although that Anaheim power play does bother me a little. The Ducks can make you pay for stupid penalties, and Boston has been taking plenty of those. Still, I'd rather have the Bruins at this price. Boston Bruins Are Having Some Fun Out West
Boston is 5-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 on the road, and the Bruins have been putting on quite a show lately. They beat Utah 6-1, Philadelphia 5-1, and San Jose 6-3 on Tuesday. Seventeen goals in three games. You don't see that very often, especially from a team that wasn't supposed to be an offensive powerhouse. The San Jose game was a little messier than the final score suggests. The Sharks put 38 shots on net and made Boston work for it, but the Bruins still found a way to score six. That's three straight games with at least five goals, and you have to like the confidence they're playing with.
Here's what I find interesting about Boston. They're scoring 3.71 goals per game but only putting 25.57 shots on net. That's not a team throwing everything at the goalie and hoping something goes in. They're making their chances count. The Bruins are allowing 2.29 goals per game despite giving up 28.71 shots, and their .920 team save percentage has a lot to do with that. Now, I wouldn't ignore the special teams. Boston's power play is only converting 16.7% of the time, and the penalty kill is sitting at 76%. They're also averaging 13.7 penalty minutes per game. That's a lot of time spent sitting in the box, and against Anaheim's power play, it could become a real problem.
The Bruins have eight points from their leading scorer through seven games, including two goals and six assists. He's also fired 27 shots on net, so he's getting plenty of opportunities. Another defenseman has chipped in five points, and the scoring has been coming from different parts of the lineup. That's always nice when you're on the road. The biggest thing for me, though, is the goaltending. Boston's top goalie is 5-1-0 with a 1.99 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage. Those are some pretty serious numbers, even this early in the season. Boston also has no injuries listed for Friday, which is more than Anaheim can say.

Anaheim Ducks Have A Few Things To Figure Out
Anaheim is 4-2-0, so we're not talking about a bad hockey team here. The Ducks are actually off to a pretty decent start. They've gone 3-0 on the road but just 1-2 at home, and that seems a little backward, doesn't it? They beat Winnipeg 5-1 and Calgary 4-2 on the road, then came back to Honda Center and lost 4-2 to the same Flames on Tuesday. That one had to sting. Anaheim was tied 2-2 late in the third period before Calgary scored the winner with just over four minutes left. You can't keep giving away home games like that, especially against a team that came into the night without a win.
The Ducks are averaging 3.33 goals per game while giving up 2.83, and they're getting just 23.5 shots on net. That's even fewer than Boston. They're allowing 27 shots per game, which isn't awful, but the goaltending hasn't been nearly as good. Anaheim's team save percentage is .895. The power play is a different story. They're converting 33.3% of their chances, and the penalty kill is at 90.5%. Those are excellent numbers. Of course, we're talking about six games, not six months, so I'm not ready to call Anaheim a special-teams juggernaut. But Boston better stay out of the box. Give the Ducks too many chances with the extra man and this game could get away from the Bruins pretty quickly.
Anaheim's leading scorer has nine points through six games, with two goals and seven assists. Another forward has eight points, and the team's leading goal scorer already has four. There's some talent here, no question. The problem is keeping everybody healthy. Troy Terry is out with a hip injury, Ryan Poehling is expected to miss six to eight weeks with a knee injury, and Ian Moore is sidelined with a lower-body problem. Cutter Gauthier is also listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Anaheim's top goalie has three wins, but his 2.98 goals-against average and .892 save percentage aren't exactly making me want to back the Ducks against a team scoring like Boston. He'll need to be better Friday.
Boston Bruins vs Anaheim Ducks Picks and Predictions
Boston Bruins Moneyline (-125)
I'm taking Boston, and I don't think we need to make this one more complicated than it is. The Bruins have won three straight, they're scoring nearly four goals per game, and their goaltending has been excellent. Anaheim has some offensive talent, sure, but the Ducks are also giving up almost three goals per game and haven't been particularly good at home. That Calgary loss bothers me. You're playing a team that hasn't won a game, you're back in your own building, and you still can't finish the job. Now you've got Boston coming in with 17 goals in its last three games. That's a much tougher assignment. The one thing that could wreck this pick is penalties. Anaheim's power play is clicking at 33.3%, and Boston has been giving opponents far too many opportunities. But I trust the Bruins' goaltending a whole lot more, and I think Boston has enough offense to take advantage of Anaheim's defensive problems. Give me the Bruins to win it outright.
Under 6 Goals (+100)
This one might sound a little strange after everything I just said about Boston scoring 17 goals in three games. I get it. You look at those scores and immediately start thinking about the over. But six goals is a different number than 6.5, and I actually like getting the push protection here. Boston is allowing only 2.29 goals per game, and its top goalie has stopped 93% of the shots he's faced. Anaheim is averaging just 23.5 shots per game, and the Ducks are missing some important pieces up front. That doesn't mean they can't score, especially on the power play, but I don't see them getting a ton of chances at even strength. Boston could certainly score four by itself. That's the danger. Still, I'm thinking something closer to 3-2 or 4-2, and I'll take my chances with the under at even money. If it finishes 4-2, we get our money back. I can live with that.
