Boston Bruins vs Dallas Stars Picks and Predictions for Tuesday October 20 2026
Boston has won five straight. Dallas has three shutouts in its last six games. Somebody’s going to have to work for a goal Tuesday night, and that’s probably the best place to start with this matchup. The Bruins are finishing a four-game road trip, while the Stars have been getting by with defense and goaltending. Doesn’t sound like a game where I’d be rushing to bet seven goals.
The Bruins visit American Airlines Center in Dallas on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Puck drop is at 8:00 PM ET on ESPN. The reference total is six goals, with Dallas getting the home-ice edge in the matchup. Check out our free NHL picks for more hockey predictions.
Boston Has Been Taking Care Of Business
The Bruins are 7-2-0 and have won five straight, including the first three games of this four-game trip. They beat Anaheim and Los Angeles on the road, and the offense has been finding enough goals to get the job done. The impressive part is that Boston hasn’t needed a perfect game every night. The Bruins have been comfortable winning close games, and that’s useful against a Dallas team that doesn’t give away much.
Boston’s defense and goaltending have been the story. The club’s top netminder carries a 1.85 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage, which is outstanding through the early schedule. That gives the Bruins a chance even when the offense has a quiet night. Boston has also been getting production from its first scoring line, with its leading forward recording a point in five straight games. The Bruins aren’t just throwing pucks at the net and hoping something happens. They’ve been finishing their chances.

The concern is the schedule. This is Boston’s fourth straight road game, and Dallas is a tough place to finish a trip. The Bruins have been getting good minutes from their top defensive group, but the Stars will test them around the net. Boston can’t afford to spend the night killing penalties or chasing rebounds. The Bruins have enough offense to win, but they’ll need to be patient.
Dallas Has Been Winning Ugly
The Stars are 4-3-1, which doesn’t look particularly impressive until you check the goals-against numbers. Dallas is allowing just 1.50 goals per game, the best mark in the NHL entering this matchup. The Stars have also won four of their last six games, with three of those victories coming by shutout. That’s a pretty good way to win when the offense isn’t exactly lighting up scoreboards.
Dallas has been relying on its goaltending. Its leading goalie has been one of the best in the league early, and the Stars have been doing a good job keeping opponents from getting second chances. The offense has been spread around, with four different players tied for the team lead at three goals apiece. That’s not a bad thing, but it does mean Dallas doesn’t have one line carrying the club. The Stars need everybody contributing a little.
Matt Duchene is expected to miss several months following surgery, and that’s a significant loss for Dallas. The Stars have brought in another veteran forward to help fill the gap, but there’s no quick replacement for that kind of offense. Dallas will have to keep leaning on defense and goaltending until the scoring improves. Against Boston, that’s probably the right approach anyway.
Boston Bruins vs Dallas Stars Picks and Predictions
Boston Bruins Moneyline
I’m taking Boston, provided the price stays reasonable. Dallas has been excellent defensively, and betting against a team allowing 1.50 goals a game isn’t something I enjoy. But Boston has won five straight, the goaltending has been just as impressive, and the Bruins have been getting more reliable offense. The Stars are missing an important scoring piece, which matters in a game that could be decided by one goal. I’ll take the hotter team, but I’m not paying a heavy favorite’s price for it.
Under 6 Goals
The under six is the bet I like better. Dallas has allowed 1.50 goals a night, and Boston’s leading goalie has a 1.85 goals-against average with a .934 save percentage. Those aren’t numbers that scream 5-4. Of course, one bad penalty-killing stretch can wreck an under, and both teams have enough talent to score. But Dallas has been winning by keeping games quiet, and Boston can play that way too. I’ll take something around 3-2, with six giving us push protection.
