Boston Bruins vs San Jose Sharks Picks and Predictions for Tuesday October 13 2026
Boston has made a habit of making life miserable for opposing offenses lately, and the Bruins will try to keep that going Tuesday when they visit San Jose. The game gets underway at 11:00 PM ET at SAP Center in San Jose, California, with ESPN handling the national broadcast. Boston has bounced back from a couple of ugly losses with consecutive wins by identical four-goal margins, while the Sharks are coming off a 3-1 home defeat to Edmonton. The Bruins have outscored their last two opponents 11-2. San Jose, meanwhile, has needed overtime for all three of its victories and hasn't gotten much going offensively in its two losses. Boston Bruins Have Put Their Early Struggles Behind Them
Whatever went wrong for Boston against Minnesota and Ottawa hasn't carried over into its last two games. The Bruins were beaten 4-1 in both of those earlier contests, and there wasn't much to like about either performance. Then came Thursday's 6-1 win over Utah, followed by a 5-1 beating of Philadelphia on Saturday. That's quite a turnaround in the space of a few days. Boston is now 4-2, and the Bruins have looked considerably more comfortable playing with a lead. They haven't needed a late comeback or a fortunate bounce to get through their last two games. Both were pretty much decided before the final horn, which is exactly what you want to see from a team trying to find its footing early in the season.
Boston has 20 goals through six games and has surrendered 13, putting the Bruins at 3.33 scored and 2.17 allowed per contest. The offense has certainly done its share, but Saturday's work against Philadelphia deserves just as much attention for what happened defensively. The Flyers managed only 15 shots, while Boston put 32 on goal and scored three times in the third period. It's difficult to mount much of a comeback when you aren't getting pucks on net. The Bruins have also shut out the Rangers and held three other opponents to one goal. That tells me their defensive success isn't entirely tied to the last two blowouts. When Boston gets its positioning right and stays out of trouble, opponents haven't found many easy opportunities.
I wouldn't pencil in another five-goal performance just yet. San Jose has already beaten Florida and Los Angeles at home, and the Sharks have been stubborn in close games. Boston is also beginning a West Coast trip, which means a different travel routine and a much later start than usual. Still, the Bruins have already won away from home in Winnipeg, so there's no reason to treat the travel as some enormous obstacle. The bigger question is whether Boston can keep playing the same responsible hockey that worked so well against Utah and Philadelphia. The Sharks have allowed 17 goals in five games, and there should be opportunities if the Bruins can force San Jose into extended defensive shifts.

San Jose Sharks Have to Find Some Offense Against Boston
Three wins in five games isn't a bad opening stretch for San Jose, but there's something unusual about how the Sharks have gotten there. Every victory has come in overtime. Florida couldn't finish them off, Los Angeles couldn't finish them off, and St. Louis couldn't finish them off either. San Jose deserves credit for making those extra minutes count, but it would certainly help to start winning a few games before regulation ends. Saturday's 3-1 loss to Edmonton was a reminder of what happens when the Sharks can't manufacture enough scoring to stay within reach. They weren't blown out, but they also never found the offense needed to put much pressure on the Oilers.
San Jose has scored 13 goals and given up 17, an average of 2.6 for and 3.4 against. Those numbers aren't particularly encouraging, especially with Boston coming to town. The Sharks were shut out 5-0 by Dallas earlier in the week, managed three in their overtime victory against St. Louis, and then scored just once against Edmonton. That's four goals over three games. Saturday was especially frustrating because San Jose finished with only 20 shots. You aren't going to beat many quality opponents with that kind of production unless your goaltender has an exceptional night. Boston has been allowing very little lately, so the Sharks may have to work considerably harder than usual just to get into scoring position.
Getting Macklin Celebrini back against Edmonton was welcome news after he missed two games with a lower-body injury. Having him available gives San Jose another offensive option, although one returning player isn't going to fix everything that went wrong Saturday. The Sharks have to spend more time attacking instead of chasing the puck around their own end. Boston just held Philadelphia to 15 shots, and if San Jose allows the Bruins to dictate play in the same fashion, this could become a long evening. There's also the question of whether the Sharks can avoid falling behind early. They've been comfortable hanging around in one-goal games, but Boston has been particularly good at protecting leads. San Jose needs to make this uncomfortable for the visitors from the opening period rather than hoping for another overtime escape.
Boston Bruins vs San Jose Sharks Picks and Predictions
Pick: Boston Bruins Moneyline
Boston is my play here. San Jose has made a few opponents work overtime, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Sharks kept this close for a couple of periods. But there's a difference between surviving long enough to steal a game and controlling one from start to finish. The Bruins have done the latter in consecutive outings, and their defensive numbers make this a difficult matchup for a San Jose club that's scored four goals over its last three games. Boston doesn't need to put five on the board to get the job done. Three might be plenty if the Bruins continue limiting shots the way they did against Philadelphia. The Sharks will have the home crowd behind them, and the travel isn't ideal for Boston, but neither is enough to change my selection. I'll take the Bruins on the moneyline, assuming the eventual price offers reasonable value.
Pick: Under 6.5 Goals
I'm leaning toward a lower-scoring game despite Boston's recent offensive outbursts. The Bruins have scored 11 times over their last two games, which makes an Under a little uncomfortable, but they've also given up just two goals during that stretch. San Jose has had trouble scoring against better defensive opponents, getting shut out by Dallas and managing only one against Edmonton. I don't expect the Sharks to invite Boston into a wide-open game. That would be asking for trouble against a team that just scored six against Utah and five against Philadelphia. San Jose's best chance is to make Boston work for its chances, keep the game close into the third period, and hope its offense can finally produce something. The danger is Boston doing most of the scoring on its own, but I don't see the Sharks contributing enough to push this comfortably over the number. A 3-2 Boston win is my preferred outcome, with 4-2 another possibility. I'll take Under 6.5 if that's the available total.
