Carolina Hurricanes vs Philadelphia Flyers Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 3 2026
The Carolina Hurricanes visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 PM ET. This is already an intriguing early-season matchup because Carolina enters as the defending Stanley Cup champion while Philadelphia has stumbled out of the gate. Carolina went 53-22-7 with 113 points last season before rolling through the postseason, including a four-game sweep of Philadelphia in the second round. The Flyers opened the new season with a 7-0 loss to Pittsburgh before returning to action against New Jersey on Thursday. Carolina Returns After Winning the Stanley Cup
Carolina was one of the NHL’s most complete teams last season, finishing 53-22-7 and winning the Metropolitan Division with 113 points. The Hurricanes scored 291 goals, second-most in the NHL, while surrendering only 236. That combination produced a +55 goal differential before Carolina carried its success into the playoffs.
The Hurricanes were even more impressive once the postseason began. Carolina swept Ottawa in the opening round, swept Philadelphia in Round 2, defeated Montreal in five games and then beat Vegas in six games to capture the Stanley Cup. The Hurricanes finished the postseason 16-3.
Carolina’s 2026-27 opener was completely different from the high-scoring team we saw last season. The Hurricanes lost 1-0 in overtime to Florida in a defensive battle in which neither team scored during regulation. Carolina generated only 15 shots, while its penalty kill survived seven Florida power plays. That performance raises some early questions offensively, but one game does little to erase what Carolina accomplished last season.

Philadelphia Faces Another Difficult Opponent
Philadelphia couldn’t have asked for a worse beginning to its season. The Flyers were dismantled 7-0 by Pittsburgh in their opener, allowing the Penguins to control the game while generating nothing offensively themselves. Philadelphia then had to turn around and face New Jersey on Thursday.
The concern becomes larger when last season’s playoff matchup is included. Carolina swept Philadelphia in four games during the second round, giving the Hurricanes a considerable recent advantage in meaningful head-to-head competition.
Philadelphia therefore enters Saturday facing a difficult combination. The Flyers have already been exposed defensively this season, and now they meet the defending champions after Carolina was shut out in its opener. The Hurricanes should arrive motivated to get their offense moving.
Carolina Hurricanes vs Philadelphia Flyers Picks and Prediction
Pick: Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline
Carolina is the side. The Hurricanes were 53-22-7 last season, won the Stanley Cup and swept Philadelphia during the playoffs. The 1-0 overtime loss to Florida isn’t enough to move away from Carolina after the Hurricanes held an excellent Panthers team scoreless for more than 60 minutes. Philadelphia’s 7-0 opening loss is considerably more concerning. Carolina has the stronger recent body of work and the defensive structure to control this matchup.
Pick: Under 6.5
Carolina’s opener produced only one goal despite going to overtime, and the Hurricanes remain capable of dictating games defensively. Philadelphia’s seven goals allowed against Pittsburgh naturally makes the Over tempting, but the Flyers themselves failed to score. Rather than requiring Philadelphia to suddenly contribute substantially to the scoring, the Under 6.5 offers protection against another game controlled by Carolina’s defense.
Final Picks: Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline and Under 6.5
