Carolina Hurricanes vs St. Louis Blues Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 24 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/24/2026, 12:20 AM ET

Carolina scored five goals in Edmonton on Thursday and still lost. That’s a rough way to spend an evening. The Hurricanes had a 4-2 lead, watched Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl take over, then lost 6-5 in a shootout. You can forgive a team for struggling against those two. They combined for ten points. But Carolina had a chance to finish the game and couldn’t do it.

St. Louis had a much better Thursday. The Blues beat Vegas 6-2, and they weren’t exactly shy about putting the puck in the net. Now the Hurricanes are coming to town, and we’ve got two teams that just played games with plenty of goals. Carolina visits St. Louis at Enterprise Center on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET. The Hurricanes are favored around -144, with the Blues at +144. The total is 6.5 goals. Check our free NHL picks for more predictions.

Carolina Hurricanes Need To Finish Games

Carolina is 8-2-2 after Thursday’s 6-5 shootout loss to Edmonton. The Hurricanes have gone 2-1-1 on their five-game road trip, which ends Saturday in St. Louis. They had a two-goal lead in the second period against the Oilers and were ahead again late in the third. Neither lead held up. McDavid and Draisaitl each finished with two goals and three assists, and Carolina had to settle for one point.

The Hurricanes put 27 shots on goal Thursday and scored five times in regulation. The offense wasn’t the problem. They got contributions from several lines and created enough chances to win. The trouble came at the other end, where Brandon Bussi allowed five goals on 21 shots before the shootout. Carolina can’t expect to win many games with that kind of goaltending, no matter how well its forwards play.

Seth Jarvis scored in his season debut after recovering from shoulder surgery. Sebastian Aho had a goal and an assist, while Shayne Gostisbehere and Jordan Martinook each collected two assists. Jackson Blake, Logan Stankoven and Juuso Valimaki also scored. Getting Jarvis back gives Carolina another dangerous forward, and the Hurricanes already have plenty of scoring depth. They just need a cleaner game defensively.

St. Louis Blues Are Getting Comfortable At Home

St. Louis is 5-4-1 after beating Vegas 6-2 on Thursday. The Blues have won two straight and are 3-0-1 at Enterprise Center. They jumped ahead 2-0 in the first period against the Golden Knights, answered whenever Vegas threatened, and finished the game with three goals in the third. That’s a good night against a team that entered with eight wins.

The Blues scored six goals on 31 shots and got production from all over the lineup. They didn’t have to rely on one player carrying the offense. St. Louis also got 27 saves from Joel Hofer, who was steady enough to keep Vegas from building momentum. Carolina will bring more offensive pressure than some opponents, but the Blues have been playing confidently at home.

Justin Barron had a goal and three assists Thursday, the first four-point game of his NHL career. Dylan Holloway scored twice and added an assist. Jimmy Snuggerud had a goal and an assist, while Pavel Buchnevich and Mason McTavish also scored. McTavish has recorded a point in eight of the Blues’ first ten games. That’s the kind of production St. Louis needs if it’s going to keep winning against good opponents.

Carolina Hurricanes vs St. Louis Blues Picks and Predictions

Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline (-144)

I’m taking Carolina, but this isn’t a comfortable pick. St. Louis just scored six against Vegas and has been good at home. The Blues can absolutely win this game. Still, Carolina is 8-2-2, has been scoring plenty, and should be irritated after blowing leads against Edmonton. The Hurricanes have enough depth to make St. Louis defend for long stretches. If the goaltending is merely decent, I like Carolina to come away with the win.

Over 6.5 Goals (+117)

I’ll take the over at plus money. Carolina just played a 5-5 regulation game, and St. Louis scored six against Vegas. Both teams have been getting contributions from several lines, and neither is struggling to create chances. The obvious concern is that the goalies settle things down and we get a 3-2 game. That happens in hockey. But with Carolina’s defensive mistakes Thursday and the Blues playing well offensively at home, I like the chance of seven or more goals. Carolina 4, St. Louis 3.

Final Picks: Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline (-144) and Over 6.5 Goals (+117)
