Carolina Hurricanes vs Vancouver Canucks Picks and Predictions for Tuesday October 20 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/20/2026, 12:45 AM ET

Carolina finally lost a game. The Hurricanes had won seven straight before Calgary beat them 3-2 Sunday. Vancouver probably wishes it had that kind of problem. The Canucks have been losing games in bunches, and now they get a Carolina team that’s likely annoyed about dropping two points. That’s not a great combination for the home club.

The Hurricanes visit Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Puck drop is at 10:00 PM ET. Carolina is a substantial road favorite on the available reference boards, with the total around six goals. Check out our free NHL picks for more predictions.

Carolina Has Been The Better Team

The Hurricanes are 7-1-1 after Sunday’s loss to Calgary. Before that, they had won seven straight, including a 3-2 victory over Winnipeg. Carolina has been one of the best teams in the league through the early schedule, and one road loss doesn’t change much. The Hurricanes controlled plenty of the play against Calgary, outshooting the Flames 36-34, but couldn’t get the tying goal.

Carolina has been strong defensively and has done a good job keeping opponents from getting too many clean chances. The Hurricanes also generate plenty of shots, which puts pressure on opposing goaltenders. Against Winnipeg, they outshot the Jets 37-23. Against Calgary, they had 36 more. That kind of shot volume usually pays off over time. Vancouver is going to have trouble if it spends the night defending.

Carolina is dealing with some injuries, including Jordan Staal, who is expected to miss at least a month with a calf injury. Taylor Hall has also been sidelined with an upper-body problem. Those absences hurt the forward depth, but the Hurricanes have kept winning. Their leading scorers have been producing, and the goaltending has been reliable enough to support the defense. Carolina doesn’t need to be perfect to win this matchup.

Vancouver Is Having A Rough Start

Vancouver is 2-7-1 and has lost seven straight. That’s a brutal start, especially for a team trying to get back into the playoff picture. The Canucks lost to Tampa Bay in their latest game, and they’ve had trouble getting through 60 minutes without a bad stretch. Vancouver has enough offense to make games interesting, but the defense hasn’t been holding up.

The Canucks have been giving up too many goals, and the goaltending situation hasn’t helped. Vancouver is missing its usual top netminder because of a hip injury, and the replacements have had to carry a heavy load. That’s a difficult spot against Carolina, which can keep the pressure on for long stretches. The Canucks need to clear rebounds and get the puck out of their zone. They’ve struggled to do both consistently.

Vancouver’s top offensive group has been contributing, but not enough to make up for the goals going in at the other end. The Canucks are also dealing with some depth injuries, and the lineup hasn’t had much stability. Carolina’s forecheck is going to test them. If Vancouver keeps turning the puck over in its own end, this could get ugly.

Carolina Hurricanes vs Vancouver Canucks Picks and Predictions

Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline

I’m taking Carolina. The Hurricanes have won seven of nine, and the one loss Sunday came in a close game where they still generated plenty of shots. Vancouver has lost seven straight and has been struggling to defend. The price is going to be heavy, so I’d be careful about laying anything outrageous. But Carolina is the better team, and I expect the Hurricanes to control much of the game. Vancouver can steal one if its goaltending suddenly catches fire. I wouldn’t bet on that happening.

Under 6 Goals

I’ll take under six. Carolina has been winning with defense and shot pressure, and Vancouver hasn’t been scoring consistently enough to make me expect a high total. The Hurricanes should be able to control the pace and keep the Canucks from getting too many chances. The risk is Carolina scoring five by itself against a struggling defense. That’s possible. But I think the Hurricanes are more likely to win something like 4-1, and six gives us a push if the game ends 4-2.
