Chicago Blackhawks vs Boston Bruins Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 31 2026
Boston has lost two straight, and I can already hear somebody telling me the Bruins are going cold. Maybe they are. But Chicago just went into Detroit and managed one goal on 19 shots. Now the Blackhawks have to visit a Boston team that’s won five of six at home.
I know which side I’d rather have.
Chicago visits TD Garden in Boston on Saturday, October 31, with the puck dropping at 1 PM ET. Boston is around a -213 moneyline favorite, and the total is 6.5 goals. That’s a fairly expensive price on the Bruins, so there’s an argument for looking at the puck line instead. But I’m not getting fancy. I think Boston wins, and I don’t think Chicago contributes enough offense to push this game over the total. Get ready for all the action with our free NHL picks.
Chicago Blackhawks Can’t Keep Playing Without the Puck
Chicago is 4-9 overall and hasn’t won a road game in four tries. Thursday’s 4-1 loss in Detroit was another rough night. The Blackhawks were outshot 31-19 and spent too much time defending. They did beat Los Angeles 2-1 Tuesday, but that victory hasn’t changed the bigger problem. Chicago has lost four of its last five games.

The Blackhawks are scoring only about 2.2 goals per game and allowing more than three. They aren’t generating enough shots, either. When you’re putting fewer than 22 pucks on net most nights, you need somebody to finish almost every decent opportunity. That’s asking a lot. Boston has been allowing just 2.1 goals over its last ten games. Chicago is going to have to work for everything Saturday.
Roman Kantserov has five goals and one assist, giving Chicago one of its more dependable finishing options. Connor Bedard has produced three goals and four assists over his last ten appearances, although he hasn’t been able to carry the offense by himself. Bowen Byram is dealing with an upper-body injury, and his absence would hurt a defense that’s already spending too much time in its own zone. Spencer Knight has a save percentage around .897. That’s not enough support when the team in front of him is struggling to score.
Boston Bruins Have Been Much Better at Home
Boston is 9-4-1, including 5-1 at TD Garden. The Bruins lost 4-1 in St. Louis Thursday, following a 2-1 defeat at Carolina. Two losses, yes, but let’s not forget what came before them. Boston scored six against San Jose, six against Nashville and has won seven of its last ten games. I’m not ready to panic over a couple of road defeats.
The Bruins have been averaging 4.1 goals over their last ten while allowing 2.1. That’s a pretty impressive difference. They don’t necessarily bury opponents under 40 shots, but they’ve been finishing their chances. Chicago is the kind of opponent that could spend an entire period chasing the puck. If Boston gets ahead, I don’t see the Blackhawks having enough offense to make a serious comeback.
David Pastrnak has seven goals and nine assists over his last ten games. That’s 16 points, and it’s the biggest reason I like Boston’s offense in this matchup. James Hagens has five goals and five assists on the season, giving the Bruins another player capable of producing. Jeremy Swayman has been solid in goal, with a save percentage around .921, and Boston has no major injuries listed. That’s a nice situation compared with Chicago’s problems.
Chicago Blackhawks vs Boston Bruins Picks and Predictions
Boston Bruins Moneyline (-213)
I’m taking Boston. The price isn’t wonderful, but I don’t see Chicago matching the Bruins offensively. The Blackhawks are winless on the road, barely getting shots on goal and coming off another poor performance. Boston has lost two straight, which might scare some people away. It doesn’t bother me much. The Bruins are back home, where they’ve been excellent, and they’re facing a team that has trouble scoring twice. If Boston plays anything close to its usual home game, it wins.
Under 6.5 Goals (-127)
I’ll take Under 6.5. Boston could score four or five by itself, so that’s the danger. But Chicago has managed only 2.2 goals a game, and the Bruins have been allowing just over two across their last ten. I don’t expect the Blackhawks to suddenly start peppering Swayman with quality chances. A 4-1 Boston win gets the job done, and even 4-2 stays under. The one thing I don’t want is Chicago taking a bunch of penalties and letting Boston’s power play turn this into a blowout.
Final Picks: Boston Bruins Moneyline (-213) and Under 6.5 Goals (-127)
