Detroit Red Wings vs Edmonton Oilers Picks and Predictions for Monday October 26 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/26/2026, 12:50 AM ET

Edmonton just got embarrassed at home. Toronto came into Rogers Place on Saturday and beat the Oilers 7-2, which isn’t something you expect from a team that had been rolling along near the top of the Pacific Division. Now Detroit comes to town, and I’m curious how the Oilers respond. Edmonton has been scoring almost four goals a night, but that doesn’t do much good when your goalie is fishing seven pucks out of the net. The Red Wings aren’t exactly a powerhouse, although they’ve been getting plenty of shots on goal. This could be a pretty entertaining game if both teams keep making the same defensive mistakes.

Detroit visits Edmonton at Rogers Place on Monday, October 26, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:30 PM ET. The Oilers should be favored at home, but I wouldn’t pay an outrageous price after Saturday’s defensive collapse. My preferred plays are Edmonton moneyline at -155 or better and Over 5.5 goals at -125 or better. Those are betting thresholds, not confirmed sportsbook prices. Detroit Red Wings Have Been Getting Shots, Not Enough Goals

Detroit is 4-4-3 after an uneven start to the season. The Red Wings are 1-0-2 away from home, and this will be the fourth game of a western road trip that has already taken them through Seattle, Vancouver, and Calgary. That’s a lot of traveling in a week. Detroit hasn’t been terrible, but it hasn’t been particularly convincing either. The Wings are getting enough shots to be more dangerous than their record suggests. The problem is they aren’t finishing enough of those chances, and now they’re facing an Edmonton team that can punish just about any defensive mistake.

Detroit is averaging 29.9 shots on goal, which puts the Red Wings among the league leaders. That’s the good news. The bad news is they’re shooting only around 9%, one of the weaker marks in the NHL. You can keep putting 30 shots on net, but eventually somebody has to finish. Edmonton’s defense has been giving up chances, particularly at home, so Detroit should have opportunities Monday. The Wings also need to stay out of the penalty box. Edmonton’s power play can turn a close game into a two-goal deficit in a hurry, and that’s not a situation Detroit wants to get into.

Alex DeBrincat has been one of Detroit’s main offensive threats, with six goals and 12 points through ten games. Lucas Raymond has also been creating chances, and the Red Wings need both of them involved. The bigger issue is in goal. John Gibson has been dealing with an upper-body injury, while Daniil Tarasov is day-to-day. Detroit could be forced to use another option if neither is ready. Mason Appleton and Marco Kasper are also out, which leaves the Wings short on depth. That’s not ideal when you’re heading into Edmonton to face one of the most dangerous offenses in hockey.

Edmonton Oilers Need to Forget Saturday in a Hurry

Edmonton is 8-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 at home. The Oilers had been playing excellent hockey before Toronto showed up and scored seven Saturday. That loss was ugly, but I wouldn’t throw away everything Edmonton has done because of one bad night. The Oilers have won eight games already, and they’re 8-0-1 when scoring at least three goals. That’s a pretty telling number. When Edmonton gets its offense going, opponents have a hard time keeping up. Detroit has allowed too many quality chances this season, and the Oilers should be able to create plenty Monday.

Edmonton has been averaging close to four goals per game, and its shooting percentage has been unusually high. The Oilers are converting around 18.6% of their shots, which is the best mark in the league. That’s probably going to come down eventually, but it’s hard to argue with the results so far. Edmonton doesn’t need 40 shots to score four goals. The Oilers have also been dangerous in transition, and that’s where Detroit could get into trouble. The Wings like to push the puck forward, but turnovers against Edmonton can become odd-man rushes in a hurry. The Oilers need to tighten things up defensively after Saturday, but they should have the advantage offensively.

Connor McDavid has been ridiculous through ten games, putting up 31 points, including 23 assists. Leon Draisaitl has ten goals and scored twice in the loss to Toronto. That’s the kind of offensive talent Detroit has to deal with. Edmonton is missing Mattias Ekholm on defense, and the goaltending situation isn’t completely settled. Devon Levi is on injured reserve, Frederik Andersen is out, and Tristan Jarry could get the start. Jason Dickinson and Matt Savoie are also sidelined. Those injuries matter, particularly on defense, but Edmonton still has enough scoring ability to make life miserable for Detroit.

Detroit Red Wings vs Edmonton Oilers Picks and Predictions

Edmonton Oilers Moneyline — Take -155 or Better

I’ll take Edmonton if the price is -155 or better. The Oilers just lost 7-2, and that makes me a little uncomfortable. But Detroit has its own problems, especially in goal, and the Wings are at the end of a long western road trip. Edmonton has been scoring almost four goals per game, and McDavid and Draisaitl can take over a game pretty quickly. Detroit will get shots, and the Wings could make this interesting if Edmonton’s defense looks anything like it did against Toronto. Still, I think the Oilers respond after that embarrassing loss. They’re the better team, they’re at home, and I expect their offense to be the difference. Just don’t make me lay -190 to find out.

Over 5.5 Goals — Take -125 or Better

I’m going over 5.5 if the price is -125 or better. Edmonton just allowed seven goals, Detroit has questions in net, and both teams have enough offensive talent to put up a few. The Oilers are scoring nearly four goals per game, and Detroit is generating almost 30 shots a night. The Wings haven’t been finishing particularly well, but Edmonton’s defensive injuries should give them some opportunities. The concern is that Edmonton comes out determined to play a much tighter game after Saturday’s embarrassment. That’s possible. But with the goaltending questions on both sides, I don’t think either team is going to shut the other down completely. A 4-2 or 4-3 Edmonton win makes sense.

Final Picks: Edmonton Oilers Moneyline at -155 or better and Over 5.5 Goals at -125 or better
