Edmonton Oilers vs New York Islanders Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 31 2026
Edmonton is 5-0 on the road. Five trips, five wins. And the Oilers are scoring more than four goals a game.
Now they’re heading to Long Island, where the Islanders have been playing some pretty good hockey themselves. New York just beat Minnesota 4-3 in overtime, and the Islanders have lost only once in regulation at home.
This is a good matchup. But I’m taking Edmonton.
The Oilers visit UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on Saturday, October 31, with puck drop scheduled for 2 PM ET. Edmonton is a slight moneyline favorite around -117, and the total is 6.5 goals. I like the Oilers to keep their road streak going, and I think there’s enough offense here to get Over the number. Get ready for all the action with our free NHL picks.

Edmonton Oilers Have Been Scoring on Everybody
Edmonton is 9-2-2, including that perfect 5-0 road record. The Oilers have won seven of their last ten games and have been averaging 3.8 goals during that stretch. That’s good hockey. They’ve been getting production from their best players, and opponents haven’t found a consistent way to slow them down. The one concern is that Edmonton still gives up too many chances defensively.
The Oilers are scoring about 4.2 goals per game, the best mark in the league. Their power play is converting at 35.7 percent, which is ridiculous this early in the season. But the penalty kill is down around 71 percent. That’s not good. Edmonton can score four and still find itself in a tight game because it gives up too many opportunities at the other end. Against the Islanders, that’s the danger. New York doesn’t need a dozen great chances to score a couple of goals.
Leon Draisaitl has 12 goals and 12 assists, while Connor McDavid has six goals and 21 assists over his last ten games. Twenty-seven points in ten games. That’s the kind of production that makes me willing to overlook some defensive problems. Zach Hyman is out with a neck injury, and Matt Savoie, Mattias Janmark and several others are unavailable. Edmonton is missing some depth, but the top-end talent is still there. If the Oilers get a few power plays, New York could have a long afternoon.
New York Islanders Have Been Tough at Home
The Islanders are 7-4-2, including 4-1-1 at UBS Arena. They’ve won six of their last ten games and just beat Minnesota 4-3 in overtime. That’s a good result against a competitive team. New York has been playing better defensively than Edmonton, and that’s the main reason this matchup should stay close.
The Islanders are allowing about 2.6 goals per game, one of the better numbers in the league. Their penalty kill is around 86 percent, and they’ve been winning more than 55 percent of their faceoffs. Those are useful advantages against Edmonton. The trouble is that New York scores only about three goals a night, and the power play hasn’t been particularly effective. If the Oilers get to four, the Islanders are going to have to find more offense than usual.
Bo Horvat has seven goals and seven assists, giving New York 14 points from one of its most important forwards. Matthew Schaefer has four goals and eight assists over his last ten games, which is excellent production from the blue line. Ilya Sorokin has been strong in goal, with a save percentage around .915 and a goals-against average near 2.34. That’s the biggest obstacle for Edmonton. But New York is missing Mathew Barzal, Matias Maccelli, Calum Ritchie and Alexander Romanov. Those injuries take away some offensive creativity and defensive depth.
Edmonton Oilers vs New York Islanders Picks and Predictions
Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (-117)
I’m taking Edmonton. The Islanders have been good at home, and Sorokin is capable of stealing a game. I wouldn’t argue with anybody who thinks New York can win. But Edmonton is 5-0 on the road and has the most dangerous offense in the league right now. McDavid and Draisaitl have been producing at a ridiculous pace, and that power play can change a game in two minutes. New York’s penalty kill is good, but I don’t want to spend the afternoon hoping it can shut down Edmonton’s best players. I’ll take the Oilers at a reasonable price.
Over 6.5 Goals (-108)
I’ll take Over 6.5. Edmonton scores more than four a game and allows more than three. That’s already enough to get me interested. The Islanders are better defensively, but they’ve scored at least three goals in several recent wins, including four against Minnesota Thursday. Sorokin could ruin this pick if he’s at his best, and that’s a real concern. But Edmonton’s penalty kill gives New York chances, while the Oilers can score against anybody. Something like Edmonton 4-3 gets us over.
Final Picks: Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (-117) and Over 6.5 Goals (-108)
