Edmonton Oilers vs Utah Mammoth Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 17 2026
Didn’t these two just play? Sure did. Utah went into Edmonton Thursday night and beat the Oilers 4-2. And now the Oilers have to get on a plane, head down to Salt Lake City, and try to return the favor. I’ll tell you something. I wouldn’t be surprised if Edmonton comes out a little irritated Saturday. The Oilers had won five straight before Utah showed up, and nobody likes getting knocked off at home. But the Mammoth didn’t steal that game. They played good hockey, scored twice on the power play, and made Edmonton work for just about everything. The rematch is Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the puck dropping at 10:00 PM ET. I’m leaning toward Utah again, although beating a good team twice in three nights is no small job. Be sure to check out our free NHL picks for more NHL predictions throughout the season.
Edmonton Oilers Have Something To Settle
Edmonton is 5-1-1, and before Thursday, the Oilers hadn’t lost a game in regulation. They’d won five straight, including three road games against Anaheim, San Jose, and Los Angeles. That’s a pretty nice trip. They beat the Kings 4-1 Tuesday and looked like they were starting to settle into a rhythm. Then Utah came to town and spoiled everything. The Oilers lost 4-2, and the frustrating part is that they weren’t completely outplayed. They had their chances. They just couldn’t finish enough of them. Edmonton is 3-0-0 on the road, so heading to Utah shouldn’t scare this bunch. Still, I’d be a little concerned about playing the same team again after losing the first meeting. Utah knows it can beat them now.
The Oilers have scored 31 goals in seven games. That’s 4.43 per night, and it’s a heck of an offensive average. They’ve also allowed 22, or 3.14 per game. But here’s something interesting. Edmonton allowed 13 goals in its first two games against Vancouver. In the five games since, including Thursday’s loss, the Oilers have given up just nine. That’s a pretty big improvement. Their offense hasn’t been quite as explosive lately, either. They’ve scored four or fewer in five straight games. Utah held them to two Thursday, and that wasn’t an accident. The Mammoth stayed organized, limited the second chances, and didn’t give Edmonton much room to get comfortable. If the Oilers want a different result Saturday, they’ll have to do a better job getting to the net instead of settling for chances from the outside.
Edmonton’s top scorer has been ridiculous through the opening stretch, piling up 17 points in the first six games. The Oilers have also gotten plenty of production from their defense, and that’s a big reason they’ve been able to score so much. Their leading goal scorer has five through seven games, and the power play has been dangerous when it gets opportunities. But the injuries are starting to become a real problem. Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Matt Savoie, Jake Walman, and Mattias Janmark have all been unavailable. Frederik Andersen is also out with a knee injury. That’s a lot of missing depth. Edmonton still has enough talent to beat anybody, but Utah made those absences look important Thursday. The Oilers are asking their top players to do a lot of the heavy lifting, and eventually that catches up with you.

Utah Mammoth Are Making People Pay Attention
Utah is 6-2-0, and the Mammoth have won three straight. They beat Buffalo 4-1, Toronto 5-4, and Edmonton 4-2. That’s a pretty good week of hockey. The win over the Oilers was probably the most impressive of the bunch because Edmonton had been rolling along without a regulation loss. Utah didn’t panic when the Oilers scored in the second period, and the Mammoth kept playing their game. They scored twice on the power play, got some timely goaltending, and finished the job. Now they’re heading home, where they’ve won both of their games this season. That’s the part I like. Utah already beat Edmonton on the road, and now it gets the rematch in its own building. Not a bad spot to be in.
The Mammoth have scored 31 goals in eight games, which works out to 3.88 per night. They’ve allowed 21, or 2.63 per game. That’s a better defensive average than Edmonton, and it’s not like Utah has been sacrificing offense to get there. The Mammoth have scored at least four goals in six of their eight games. Six! Their power play has been one of the best in the league, and Thursday showed why. They went 2-for-3 with the man advantage against Edmonton. That’s a problem for an Oilers penalty kill that hasn’t been particularly reliable. Utah’s defense has been doing a better job limiting dangerous chances, too. Edmonton managed only 24 shots Thursday, and the Mammoth didn’t give them many clean second opportunities. That’s the kind of hockey that wins games against talented offensive teams.
Utah’s leading scorers have been getting the job done, with several players producing at close to a point-per-game pace. Their top goal scorer has been finishing chances, and the defense has been contributing plenty of assists. The goaltending has been solid, too. Utah’s regular starter made 22 saves Thursday, and he’s been winning games even when the Mammoth give up a few chances. The team has some injury concerns, but the biggest thing going for Utah right now is how well the lineup has been playing together. They’re getting goals from different places, and they’re not relying on one player to carry the offense. That’s important against Edmonton. You can’t spend the whole night worrying about one line and expect to win. Utah has been making opponents defend everybody.
Edmonton Oilers vs Utah Mammoth Picks and Predictions
Utah Mammoth Moneyline
I’m taking Utah again. And yeah, I know what you’re going to say. Edmonton isn’t going to lose to the same team twice in three nights, right? Maybe not. The Oilers are 3-0 on the road, they’ve got one of the best offenses in hockey, and they’re going to be motivated after Thursday. I get all of that. But Utah just showed us how to beat them. The Mammoth stayed disciplined, took advantage of Edmonton’s penalty kill, and didn’t give the Oilers much room to operate. Now Utah gets home ice. The Mammoth have scored 31 goals in eight games, and they’ve been playing better defensively than Edmonton. I’m not pretending this is an easy pick. The Oilers could come out flying and put four goals on the board before Utah knows what happened. But I like the way the Mammoth match up, and I don’t see a good reason to abandon them just because Edmonton wants revenge. Give me Utah at home.
Over 6.5 Goals
I’m going over 6.5, and I know Thursday’s game finished with only six goals. That’s the part that makes this a little uncomfortable. Utah played a pretty tight game defensively, and Edmonton couldn’t get much going after the first period. But look at the bigger picture. The Oilers are averaging 4.43 goals per game, and Utah is scoring 3.88. That’s more than eight goals a night between them. Now, those averages don’t mean we’re automatically getting eight Saturday. Hockey doesn’t work that way. But both teams have dangerous power plays, and neither penalty kill has been particularly reliable. Utah scored twice with the man advantage Thursday, and Edmonton has enough talent to return the favor. I can see the Oilers making some adjustments, getting more shots through, and turning this into a 4-3 game. Maybe Utah wins it 4-3. Maybe Edmonton gets its revenge. Either way, I think we see more offense in the rematch. Give me the over 6.5.
