Edmonton Oilers vs Vancouver Canucks Picks and Predictions for Thursday October 1 2026
The Edmonton Oilers visit the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:00 PM ET with coverage on ESPN+. This is already the second meeting of the young 2026-27 season between these Pacific Division rivals. Vancouver opened the season Tuesday with a 6-5 overtime win in Edmonton, improving to 1-0-0, while the Oilers begin Thursday at 0-0-1. Edmonton is listed as a -204 road favorite, Vancouver is +167, and the total is set at 6.5 goals. Be sure to check out our free NHL picks for more NHL predictions throughout the season.
Edmonton Gets an Immediate Rematch
Edmonton had no trouble creating offense in the opener, scoring five goals in Tuesday’s loss. The problem was keeping Vancouver from answering. Allowing six goals at home immediately puts defensive execution under the microscope entering the rematch.
The Oilers now get the advantage of having seen Vancouver’s approach in a meaningful regular-season game rather than trying to project from preseason results. That should help with matchup adjustments, line deployment and defensive coverage.
The market still clearly believes Edmonton is the stronger team, which is why the Oilers remain a heavy favorite despite losing the first meeting. That makes Thursday less about whether Edmonton can score and more about whether it can prevent another high-event game from getting away from it.

Vancouver Brings Momentum Home
Vancouver could not have asked for a better emotional start to the season. Winning 6-5 in overtime on the road against Edmonton gives the Canucks early confidence and immediately validates their ability to trade offense with one of the league’s more dangerous attacks.
The challenge is repeating that performance two nights later. Vancouver scored six goals in the opener, but another game at that level of offensive efficiency is a demanding expectation.
Home ice should help, though, and the Canucks now know they can pressure Edmonton successfully. They don’t need to dominate possession to remain live as an underdog if they can once again create enough quality chances.
Edmonton Oilers vs Vancouver Canucks Picks and Prediction
Pick: Vancouver Canucks +1.5
Vancouver +1.5 is the better side than laying a heavy -204 price with Edmonton. The Canucks just beat the Oilers outright in Edmonton and now return home for the rematch. Edmonton may very well respond and win, but asking the Oilers to cover a multi-goal margin is more aggressive than necessary after Vancouver proved it can stay with them offensively. The +1.5 gives us protection in another one-goal game while respecting Edmonton’s ability to bounce back.
Pick: Over 6.5 (-107)
The Over remains the preferred total. Tuesday’s opener produced 11 goals, and while that level of scoring is unlikely to repeat exactly, both teams showed they can generate offense against this matchup. Edmonton scored five in defeat, Vancouver scored six, and the rematch comes only two nights later with both clubs already familiar with the other’s defensive vulnerabilities. A 4-3 game is enough to cash the Over, making 6.5 still a reasonable number.
Final Picks: Vancouver Canucks +1.5 and Over 6.5 (-107)
