Los Angeles Kings vs San Jose Sharks Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 3 2026
The Los Angeles Kings visit the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Los Angeles enters the weekend 0-1-0 after a disastrous defensive opener, while San Jose gets an early home opportunity against its Pacific Division rival. The early market I found had not yet posted moneyline, puck-line or total odds for this matchup. Be sure to check out our free NHL picks for more NHL predictions throughout the season.
Kings Must Fix the Defense
Los Angeles’ opener couldn’t have gone much worse defensively. Colorado defeated the Kings 8-4, immediately putting Los Angeles into response mode.
The Kings’ opening roster still contains substantial veteran talent, so one ugly performance shouldn’t be treated as evidence that Los Angeles will consistently concede at that rate. It does, however, make the defensive response the central storyline Saturday.
The positive is that Los Angeles still scored four goals despite being overwhelmed. If the Kings clean up even a portion of their defensive problems, they have enough offense to rebound quickly.

San Jose Has a Chance to Test LA Again
San Jose’s opportunity is obvious: attack a Los Angeles defense that just surrendered eight goals rather than allowing the Kings to dictate a slow, structured game.
The Sharks shouldn’t expect another eight-goal collapse, though. Extreme opening-night results often create betting overreactions, and I’m reluctant to abandon Los Angeles entirely based on one game against a Colorado team considered one of the league’s stronger contenders.
That makes this an interesting buy-low opportunity on the Kings, particularly if bettors react strongly to the opening loss.
Kings vs Sharks Picks and Prediction
Pick: Los Angeles Kings Moneyline
I’ll take Los Angeles on the moneyline. The 8-4 loss is ugly, but I’m more interested in whether it creates a favorable price than treating one result as the Kings’ new defensive baseline.
Pick: Over 5.5
I’ll take Over 5.5 if that number becomes available. Los Angeles scored four in its opener despite losing, and its defensive performance gives San Jose a realistic path toward contributing enough offense to push this beyond five goals.
Final Picks: Los Angeles Kings ML and Over 5.5
