Minnesota Wild vs Edmonton Oilers Picks and Predictions for Tuesday October 20 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/20/2026, 12:35 AM ET

Minnesota has been winning games, and Edmonton has been scoring goals like somebody turned the difficulty setting down. The Oilers have 37 goals in eight games. That’s more than four and a half a night. The Wild have been much better defensively, though, and that’s what makes this one interesting. Edmonton can score on anybody. Minnesota might be one of the few teams that can slow it down.

The Wild visit Rogers Place in Edmonton on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Puck drop is at 9:00 PM ET. The reference total is 6.5 goals. Check out our free NHL picks for more predictions.

Minnesota Has Been Getting The Stops

Minnesota is 6-2-1 and has won four of its last five games. The Wild beat Columbus 2-1 in their latest outing, and they’ve been comfortable winning low-scoring games. That’s a useful skill when you’re going into Edmonton. The Oilers can put five or six on the board in a hurry, so Minnesota needs to stay disciplined and avoid giving away easy chances.

The Wild have allowed 21 goals in nine games, an average of 2.33. That’s one of the better defensive starts in the league. Their goaltending has also been solid, with the top option posting a save percentage above .900. Minnesota doesn’t need to match Edmonton goal for goal if it can keep the Oilers to three or fewer. The trouble is that Edmonton has been scoring on almost everybody.

Minnesota’s leading goal scorer already has ten, and the club has been getting enough offense to support its defense. That’s a nice balance. The Wild also have a defenseman near the top of the team in assists, which helps get the puck moving out of their own end. Minnesota needs that transition game Tuesday. Spending a full period pinned in its zone against Edmonton is asking for trouble.

Edmonton Has Been Scoring In Bunches

The Oilers are 6-1-1, and their latest game was another reminder of how dangerous they can be. Edmonton beat Utah 6-2, putting together another big offensive night. The Oilers have scored 37 goals in eight games and have won six of their last seven. They’re also back home, where they’ve been tough to beat. Minnesota will need one of its better defensive efforts to keep this close.

Edmonton is averaging 4.63 goals per game, but the Oilers have allowed 24 in eight games. That’s three a night. The offense has been covering up some defensive problems, especially early in the season. The goaltending has improved after a shaky start, although the team save percentage remains below .900. Minnesota has enough scoring to make Edmonton pay if the Oilers get careless.

Edmonton’s leading point producer has 23 points through eight games, including 17 assists. That’s a ridiculous start. The club also has a seven-goal scorer, so it’s not all coming from one source. The Oilers have been getting production from several parts of the lineup, and that’s why they’re dangerous. Minnesota can focus on the top scoring group all it wants. Edmonton has other ways to put the puck in the net.

Minnesota Wild vs Edmonton Oilers Picks and Predictions

Edmonton Oilers Moneyline

I’ll take Edmonton at home. Minnesota’s defense is good, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Wild make this a tight game. But the Oilers are scoring 4.63 goals a night, and they’ve won six of eight. That’s hard to bet against, especially at Rogers Place. Edmonton has been giving up some goals, so this isn’t a safe pick. I just think the Oilers have more ways to score when the game gets tight.

Over 6.5 Goals

I’ll go over 6.5. Minnesota has been strong defensively, which makes this a little uncomfortable. But Edmonton has scored 37 goals in eight games and allowed 24. The Oilers have been playing games with plenty of chances at both ends. Minnesota doesn’t have to abandon its defensive approach for this to get over. A couple of power-play goals and an empty-netter could do it. I’m looking for something around 4-3 Edmonton.
