Wild vs Kraken Game Preview

The Minnesota Wild head west to take on the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Monday night, with both teams entering this matchup on very different trajectories. Minnesota continues to battle through injuries while maintaining strong defensive structure, whereas Seattle is looking to stop a concerning losing streak that has derailed their momentum. Before breaking this one down and making your wagers, make sure to check today’s updated free NHL Picks for additional analysis and edges from around the league.

Minnesota enters the matchup at 15-9-5 and a respectable 7-6-1 on the road. Seattle sits at 11-9-6 but has stumbled recently, losing four straight and struggling to find consistency on both ends of the ice. The Kraken have been competitive at home, yet their scoring droughts and special teams problems remain major issues.

Minnesota Wild Outlook: Defense and Goaltending Carrying the Load

Minnesota’s calling card this season continues to be its structure, discipline, and elite goaltending tandem. The Wild score just 2.69 goals per game, but they allow only 2.72, thanks largely to Filip Gustavsson and Jesper Wallstedt playing at a high level.

  • Filip Gustavsson: 7–8–3, 2.76 GAA, .905 SV%

  • Jesper Wallstedt: 8–1–2, 1.95 GAA, .936 SV% (one of the NHL’s top breakout performers)

Minnesota isn’t blowing teams out — they survive on low-event hockey, tight checking, and capitalizing on mistakes.

Offensively, everything still runs through Kirill Kaprizov, who leads the Wild with 32 points (17G, 15A) and 96 shots. He drives transition, power-play creation, and Minnesota’s entire identity in the offensive zone.

Injuries: The Wild continue to play without Marco Rossi, Marcus Foligno, and Vinnie Hinostroza, removing depth scoring options and forcing the team to rely even more on their top line.

Wild Recent Form:

  • L 4–2 @ VAN

  • L 4–1 @ CGY

  • W 1–0 @ EDM

  • L 3–2 SO vs BUF

  • W 3–2 SO vs COL

Minnesota has shown resilience, but scoring inconsistency remains a concern.

Seattle Kraken Outlook: Searching for Answers on Offense

The Kraken have been one of the NHL’s most unpredictable teams this season. Strong underlying play hasn’t translated to goals, and recent defensive collapses have magnified their issues. Seattle has lost four straight, including a 4–3 home loss to Detroit and a stunning 9–4 blowout loss at Edmonton.

Team Offense:

  • 2.54 goals per game

  • 24.8 shots per game (Bottom five in NHL)

Seattle simply isn’t generating enough quality scoring chances. Their passing sequences are often clean, but nothing is finishing at the net.

Goaltending Breakdown (SEA):

  • Joey Daccord: 7–7–4, 2.99 GAA, .891 SV%

  • Philipp Grubauer: 4–0–1, 2.63 GAA, .895 SV%

  • Matt Murray: strong numbers but limited usage

The numbers are average, but when paired with a struggling offense, average isn’t enough.

Injury Update:

  • Jaden Schwartz (IR) remains a major absence.

  • Max McCormick remains out. Schwartz’s playmaking, especially in tight areas, is something Seattle desperately misses.

Recent Form (SEA):

  • L 4–3 vs DET

  • L 9–4 @ EDM

  • L 4–0 vs EDM

  • L 3–2 vs DAL

  • L 1–0 SO @ NYI

The Kraken have scored just 8 goals in their last five games, with three of those coming in their most recent outing. Scoring is the primary issue.

Matchup Breakdown: Minnesota Wild vs Seattle Kraken

5-on-5 Play

Minnesota is better at controlling pace and limiting high-danger chances. Seattle plays hard but cannot consistently transition into dangerous scoring opportunities.

Edge: Minnesota

Goaltending

Wallstedt is playing like a future Vezina contender. Seattle’s netminders are doing their part, but Minnesota clearly has the advantage.

Edge: Minnesota

Special Teams

  • Minnesota PP: 22.8%

  • Seattle PP: 16.9%

  • Minnesota PK: 81.2%

  • Seattle PK: 64.8% (Bottom of NHL)

Seattle’s penalty kill is a major liability and could be the deciding factor.

Strong Edge: Minnesota

Momentum and Confidence

Seattle is sliding badly. Minnesota, while not perfect, at least knows how to grind out points.

Puck Line: MIN -1.5 (+200) SEA +1.5 (-245)

Total: 5.5 (O -110 / U -110)

Key Trends:

  • Minnesota has won two of its last three road games.

  • Seattle has lost four straight and is struggling offensively.

  • Seattle’s penalty kill ranks among the worst in the league.

  • Minnesota games tend to stay low-scoring unless their goaltending breaks down early.

Wild vs Kraken Prediction and Best Pick

After breaking down all the angles, I simply cannot trust Seattle in its current form. The Kraken look disconnected, lack finishers, and their special teams — especially the PK — continue to be a problem. Minnesota is not a perfect team, but they have the better goaltending, better structure, and far more reliable game-to-game consistency. Betting on sports and on the Wild is easy, but even easier if you use the best sportsbooks. Seattle may keep the game close for stretches, but when the Wild get a power play or generate momentum, they have the firepower and defensive shutdown capability to tilt the ice.

My Best Pick:

  • Minnesota Wild Moneyline (-130)

I’m also strongly considering:

Secondary Leans:

  • Under 5.5 (-110) — given Minnesota’s defensive style and Seattle’s scoring issues
  • Kirill Kaprizov Anytime Goal — shot volume + PP usage
  • Minnesota -1.5 (+200) as a plus-money puck-line flyer

The Wild have the right ingredients to grind out another road victory against a Kraken team currently struggling to find any rhythm.
