The Devils travel West to Anaheim on Sunday night, looking to bounce back from two tough road losses. New Jersey sits at 8-3-0 overall but has dropped consecutive games, allowing 13 total goals against San Jose and Colorado. Anaheim, on the other hand, has caught fire with wins in four of its last five, including a convincing 5-2 win over Detroit at home. The opening face-off is set for 8:00 PM ET at Honda Center, airing on ESPN+. From power plays to puck drops, we’ve got winning NHL picks.
Devils Preview
New Jersey’s offensive power has carried the early season, averaging 3.73 goals per game while converting an excellent 32.3% on the power play. Jack Hughes continues to lead the attack with 15 points and 9 goals, while Jesper Bratt’s 9 assists have kept the top line rolling. Despite the strong scoring numbers, the Devils’ recent defensive problems stand out. Jake Allen has been solid overall with a 2.39 GAA and .906 save percentage, but the team has given up too many quality looks in transition. Injuries have also chipped away at team depth, with Brett Pesce and several forwards sidelined, leaving holes on the penalty kill and defensive pairings. Even so, New Jersey’s 84.6% PK rate has stayed solid.
Ducks Preview
Anaheim enters this matchup playing its best hockey of the season. The Ducks are 6-3-1 and showing a balanced attack that’s scoring 3.60 goals per game while limiting opponents to just over 3 per contest. Leo Carlsson leads the Ducks with 15 points, and rookie Cutter Gauthier has been a consistent finisher with six goals. Lukas Dostal has stabilized the crease, holding a .909 save percentage and a 2.74 GAA, which gives Anaheim the defensive advantage at home. The Ducks’ power play (20%) and penalty kill (78.8%) are improving, particularly with the young forwards creating second-chance chances around the net. The home ice has also treated them well, as they’re 2-1 at Honda Center with nearly 32 attempts per game.
Ducks vs Devils Prediction
This game features two of the league’s most entertaining young teams, and both offenses are capable of lighting it up. Given New Jersey’s road inconsistencies and Anaheim’s recent momentum, the Ducks’ form and goaltending will be the difference. Expect a fast-paced matchup with both power plays active.
