Devils Look To Carry Their Momentum Into Detroit
The Devils are coming to this game here sitting at a 2-2-0 record on the year. The last game on the ice for the Devils was an impressive 4-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on October 10th. However, the October 6th and 3rd games were both loses with a 5-3 loss to Utah and a 6-0 loss to the Islanders. On a side note Nico Hischier ended up getting his 200th career goal in the win over Vancouver. The Devils do play Ottawa on Monday, but this preview was completed prior to that game.
On the offensive side of the puck the Devils have been balanced with 2.50 goals per game scored on 37.8 shots per game. The downside is the defense is giving up 3.50 goals per game and has only faced 27.3 shots per game. The game against the Canucks the Devils were able to play the Canucks really well getting a total of 37 shots and only faced 21 shots. The downside is the Devils relied heavily on the power play for the goals scoring converting on 3 out of the 4 tries they ended up having. Jake Allen looked impressive in the net stopping 20 out of the 21 shots and recorded the win.
The Devils have not confirmed who will be the starter in the net in this game, but it is a back to back game. The Devils have Nick Bjugstad on the injured reserve list with a pectoral injury. Seamus Casey is also out after having knee surgery. Connor Brown is recovering from a lower body injury and could be back this week, but it is not guaranteed.

Red Wings Looking For Answers
Detroit is coming to the game here looking for a lot of answers with a 1-3-1 record on the year. The downside for the Red Wings is their home record is also sitting at 1-3-0. THe last game out for Detroit was a 1-0 shootout loss to the Canadiens in the second half of a back to back and the game prior to that was a 6-3 loss to Seattle. The lone win in their last 5 games was a 5-3 win over the Ottawa Senators.
In those five games the Red Wings have ended up getting a total of 10 goals scored with 15 allowed. That gives Detroit an average of 2 goals per game scored, but are giving up a total of 3 goals per game. Now, one important thing to note is the Red Wings in their win over the Kraken did get 40 shots and put 6 of those in the net. However, the Red Wings were unable to produce that offensive effort consistently as the Montreal team shut out the Detroit squad.
On the injury side of the ice the Red Wings do have some notable injuries as J.T. Compher, Mason Appleton, and Marco Kasper are all on the injured reserve. The main noted change is Kasper who just last week was listed as being week-to-week.
New Jersey Devils vs Detroit Red Wings Picks and Predictions
Moneyline Pick — New Jersey Devils
New Jersey offers the better matchup profile entering Tuesday. Detroit has struggled with consistency at both ends, particularly its inability to turn respectable shot production into goals. The Devils demonstrated against Vancouver that they can control possession, generate offensive pressure, and create opportunities on the power play. Detroit's forward injuries create additional problems for a lineup already struggling to score. The one concern is New Jersey's Monday game against Ottawa, especially if its goaltending situation changes. Still, with Detroit averaging just two goals through five games, the Devils are my preferred moneyline side, provided the price remains reasonable.
Total Pick — Under 6.5 Goals, If Available
Detroit's offensive difficulties are the primary reason to consider the under. The Red Wings have been shut out twice and managed just one total goal across their meetings with Montreal and the Rangers. Their most recent game showed improved goaltending, with Tarasov delivering an excellent performance against Montreal. New Jersey also limited Vancouver to a single goal in its latest completed outing. Although Detroit's defensive lapses create some risk, the combination of offensive inconsistency and a potential back-to-back situation for New Jersey points toward a more controlled scoring environment. I would prefer the under at 6.5 rather than chase a substantially lower number.
Final Picks: New Jersey Devils Moneyline | Under 6.5 Goals (target line)
