Those numbers are extremely concerning against a Carolina team that leads the NHL in shot generation at 33.2 shots per game.
Carolina, meanwhile, sits at 16–8–2 with an 8–4–1 home record and a strong 3.31 goals per game. Their defensive structure also remains elite, allowing just 24.5 shots per game, the best defensive shot suppression in the league.

Leg 2 – New York Islanders vs Tampa Bay Lightning
This is one of the most compelling matchups of the night, with both teams trending upward. The Islanders enter at 15–10–3, while Tampa Bay sits at 16–9–2 and has quietly put together a strong run.
The Islanders have shown defensive improvement lately, with Ilya Sorokin posting a 2.60 GAA and .906 SV%, but this matchup places them against one of the league’s most dangerous home teams.
Tampa Bay scores 3.26 goals per game, driven by elite playmaking from Nikita Kucherov (34 points) and the finishing ability of Brandon Hagel (17 goals). Their special teams remain among the NHL’s best, including an 87.4% penalty kill, which is one of the most important edges in this matchup.
Even more crucial: Andrei Vasilevskiy is listed Day-to-Day and likely to return, giving Tampa a massive boost. His numbers—2.31 GAA, .917 SV%—remain elite.
The Lightning also rebound extremely well from losses, and they just dropped a close 4–3 decision to Pittsburgh. Historically, Tampa tends to follow losses with strong defensive efforts.
