Senators Preview
Ottawa enters at 3-4-1 overall and 1-2 on the road, aiming to gain consistency on both ends. Linus Ullmark improved his form in the last outing, stopping 22 of 23 shots to beat the Flyers after a shaky start. He holds a 3.41 goals-against average and an .867 save percentage, while backup Leevi Meriläinen has struggled in limited action. The Senators have relied heavily on Shane Pinto, who leads the team with eight points on seven goals and an assist, including two game-winning goals. Claude Giroux has handed out four assists. Ottawa’s power play has been effective at 21.4%, but penalty killing continues to perform poorly at 62.1%, one of the lowest marks in the league. The Senators are giving up too many goals with a 4.25 goals-against average as a team.
Capitals Preview
Washington enters 5-2 with a 3-2 home record, recently finishing a 3-1 homestand that included a dominant 4-1 win over Seattle. Nic Dowd, Ryan Leonard, and Jakob Chychrun each scored in that game as the Capitals showed strong depth as the second and third lines performed well. Tom Wilson leads the club with 10 points, combining physical play and finishing touch, while Dylan Strome’s seven assists continue to generate goals for the Caps. Thompson has been the backbone early this season, going 4-1 with a 1.60 goals-against average and .927 save percentage. Washington’s special teams have found traction lately, scoring a power-play goal in four straight games and converting at an 18.2% clip overall. The penalty kill sits at 70.6% and remains the one area needing improvement, but the overall team defense has limited opponents to just 24 shots per game.
Capitals vs Senators Prediction
With Brady Tkachuk sidelined for Ottawa, offensive responsibilities fall even more on Pinto and Giroux, which could be a problem against a Washington team that controls pace effectively. The Capitals’ recent scoring and stability in goal give them a strong edge on home ice. If Ullmark maintains current form, the Senators will stay close through two periods, but Washington’s depth and special teams will win it in the third.
