The Penguins head North for a primetime clash at Scotiabank Arena against a Maple Leafs team trying to steady its form. The opening faceoff is at 7:30 PM ET on NHL Network in Toronto. Pittsburgh sits at 8-3-2 and has been strong on the road at 5-2-1, while Toronto comes in 6-5-1 but has matched that road mark at home. The Penguins are averaging 3.67 goals per game and allowing just 2.42, while Toronto scores 3.45 but gives up 3.82. Don’t get iced out — skate with our expert NHL predictions.

Penguins Preview

Pittsburgh enters after a 5-2 loss in Winnipeg but has generally been consistent on its trip. Tristan Jarry (5-1-0, 2.35 goals against average, .923 save percentage) has been sharp in net, and backup Arturs Silovs (2.44 GAA, .913 SV%) gives the club depth behind him. The top line continues to produce, with Sidney Crosby pacing the attack at 9 goals and Evgeni Malkin contributing 18 points, including 15 assists. The power play is firing at 31%, one of the best rates in the league, and the penalty kill sits at 80%. Even with several forwards missing time, including Rickard Rakell and Justin Brazeau among them, the Penguins’ depth and goaltending have carried them.

Maple Leafs Preview

Toronto’s offense runs through John Tavares and William Nylander, but the latter’s absence for this game is significant. Tavares leads with 16 points and has 10 assists, while Nylander’s playmaking (12 assists) will be missed if he can’t go. The Maple Leafs’ 13.8% power-play conversion rate is below par, and they’ve been unable to outscore mistakes. Anthony Stolarz (4-4-1, 3.27 GAA, .893 SV%) has handled most of the workload in goal with Joseph Woll on long-term injured reserve, but inconsistency in the crease has mirrored the defensive results. Toronto has played well, such as a 5-2 win at Philadelphia, but defensive mistakes remain an issue.

Maple Leafs vs Penguins Prediction

Pittsburgh holds the advantage in special teams and goaltending, while Toronto’s offense is thinner without Nylander and possibly Chris Tanev on the blue line. If the Penguins maintain a disciplined style and limit turnovers, they can control tempo against a Leafs team still in search of consistency.
