Pittsburgh Penguins vs Utah Mammoth Picks and Predictions for Monday October 19 2026
Pittsburgh has given up 11 goals in its last two games. Utah just gave up six to Edmonton. So if you’re looking for a matchup between two teams that have been shutting everybody down, keep looking. Both clubs need a better night defensively, and Monday’s game in Salt Lake City should give us a pretty good idea which one can actually make some adjustments.
The Penguins visit the Mammoth at Delta Center on Monday, October 19, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:00 PM ET. Utah is favored at -180, with Pittsburgh at +155. The total is 6.5 goals, and the over is priced at -120. Utah has been better overall, but both teams are coming off rough defensive performances. Check out our free NHL picks for more predictions.
Pittsburgh Penguins Are Giving Up Too Many Goals
Pittsburgh is 3-5-1, and the Penguins have lost three straight. They lost 5-2 at Colorado on Friday, then got beaten 6-2 by Vegas on Saturday. That’s 11 goals allowed in two games, and it’s hard to win much hockey playing like that. Pittsburgh actually jumped ahead 2-0 against Colorado before giving up five straight. Then Vegas took care of business the following night. The Penguins have been struggling defensively, and now they’re heading to Utah to face a team that’s been scoring plenty.
The Penguins have been giving opponents too many quality chances. Against Colorado, they allowed five unanswered goals after taking that early lead. The offense hasn’t been terrible, but two goals in each of the last two games isn’t enough when the defense is giving up five or six. Pittsburgh needs better puck management through the neutral zone and fewer turnovers in its own end. Utah has enough speed to take advantage of mistakes, and the Penguins can’t afford to keep handing opponents easy scoring chances.

Pittsburgh has also been dealing with some injuries on defense, including Ryan Graves and Trevor van Riemsdyk. Those absences can make it harder to keep the defensive pairings settled. The Penguins need better coverage in front of the net and more consistent goaltending. They have enough offensive experience to score goals, but they can’t keep asking the offense to overcome three-goal deficits. Against Utah, Pittsburgh needs to get through the first period without giving up a couple of cheap ones. That would be a start.
Utah Mammoth Need To Forget About Edmonton
Utah is 6-3-0 after losing 6-2 to Edmonton Saturday. That’s a rough one, but the Mammoth have been playing good hockey overall. They started the season with wins over Chicago and Columbus, then beat New Jersey, Philadelphia, and several other opponents before running into Edmonton. Utah has been scoring enough to win games, and playing at Delta Center should help. The Mammoth are still near the top of the Central Division, so one ugly loss isn’t going to ruin their season.
Utah has scored 33 goals in nine games, averaging 3.67, while allowing 27. That’s a pretty good offensive number, although the defense has been a little loose. Edmonton just put six on the board, and Pittsburgh will be looking for some of the same openings. The Mammoth need to tighten up defensively and avoid letting the Penguins get comfortable in the offensive zone. Utah has enough scoring depth to win this game, but it can’t assume Pittsburgh is going to roll over just because the Penguins have lost two straight.
The Mammoth have been getting production from different parts of the lineup, and that’s helped them start 6-3. But the goaltending and defensive coverage need to be better than they were against Edmonton. Pittsburgh has been struggling, but the Penguins still have enough talent to score if Utah gets careless. The Mammoth need to play a cleaner game, stay out of the penalty box, and make Pittsburgh work for its chances. If they do that, they should have a good chance to get back in the win column.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs Utah Mammoth Picks and Predictions
Utah Mammoth Moneyline (-180)
I’m taking Utah at -180. Pittsburgh has allowed 11 goals in two games, and that’s a tough number to overlook. The Penguins have been getting beat in their own zone, and now they’re facing a Utah team that’s averaging nearly four goals per game. The Mammoth just got embarrassed by Edmonton, so I’d expect a better effort at home. The concern is Utah’s defense, which also gave up six Saturday. This could get messy. But I think the Mammoth have the better chance of controlling the game and making Pittsburgh chase them. Give me Utah.
Over 6.5 Goals (-120)
I’m going over 6.5. Pittsburgh has given up five and six goals in its last two games. Utah just allowed six against Edmonton. Both teams have been making defensive mistakes, and both have enough offense to take advantage. The concern is one of the goaltenders bouncing back with a strong performance. That can happen, especially after a couple of ugly losses. But I don’t see either team suddenly becoming a defensive powerhouse overnight. I think both clubs score, and a 5-3 Utah win wouldn’t surprise me.
Final Picks: Utah Mammoth Moneyline (-180) and Over 6.5 Goals (-120)
