San Jose Sharks vs Nashville Predators Picks and Predictions for Thursday October 15 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/15/2026, 12:30 AM ET

The San Jose Sharks head to Nashville on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to play the Predators at Bridgestone Arena. Puck drop is at 8:00 PM ET. San Jose just lost 6-3 to Boston, while Nashville got knocked around 5-2 by Vegas. The Sharks were listed at -127 on the moneyline at FanDuel, with the Predators at +106 and the total at 6.5 goals. I’m taking Nashville. I know the Predators just gave up five, but San Jose hasn’t exactly been keeping the puck out of its own net either. Six against Boston? That’s not going to help anybody. Nashville has the home ice, and I think the Predators can get enough offense going against this defense. I’d also expect a few goals Thursday. Neither team looks particularly interested in playing a quiet 2-1 game. Make sure you check out all of our free NHL picks.

San Jose Sharks Have Been Giving Up Too Much

San Jose is 3-3 and has lost two straight. The Sharks beat St. Louis 3-2 in overtime last Thursday, then lost 3-1 to Edmonton and 6-3 to Boston. That Bruins game was rough. San Jose tied it twice in the first two periods, only to watch Boston pull away. That’s frustrating hockey. You work your way back, and a few minutes later you’re chasing another deficit. The Sharks did manage 38 shots, so the effort was there offensively. But the defense couldn’t handle Boston’s attack. San Jose has lost three of its last four now. Those early overtime wins were nice. The Sharks need to start taking care of business before the games reach that point.

The Sharks have scored 13 goals and allowed 17 through their first five games. That’s 2.6 scored and 3.4 allowed per night. Nashville hasn’t been spectacular, but I don’t like those numbers for San Jose. The Sharks have had trouble limiting quality chances, and the goaltending hasn’t covered up enough mistakes. Boston just scored six on 26 shots. That’s an ugly night no matter how you look at it. San Jose does have some offensive talent, and getting 38 shots against the Bruins is encouraging. But there’s a difference between putting the puck on net and controlling a game. The Sharks have been spending too much time trying to erase somebody else’s lead.

The goaltending is what worries me most. San Jose’s main starter had a save percentage around .860 through his first four appearances, and he stopped only 20 shots against Boston. That’s not enough. The backup looked better in his earlier start against St. Louis, making 24 saves in the overtime win. I’d want to know which one is getting the net Thursday. The Sharks also have some injuries up front. Alex Barré-Boulet is out, and several younger forwards have been unavailable. At least the offense has been getting contributions from different lines. Three goals against Boston isn’t terrible. But when your goalie and defense are having a night like that, three goals won’t get you much.

Nashville Predators Have A Better Opportunity Here

Nashville is 2-2-2 after losing 5-2 to Vegas on Tuesday. The Predators actually scored first in that one. Then the Golden Knights scored twice in the opening period, and Nashville spent the rest of the night trying to catch up. Not much fun. The Predators had beaten Montreal 5-2 earlier in the week, so they’ve shown they can put some offense together. But they haven’t been doing it consistently. That’s been the problem. One night they’re scoring five. The next night they’re getting pushed around in their own building. I still like this spot against San Jose. The Sharks are giving up plenty of goals, and Nashville has already shown it can take advantage of a struggling defense.

The Predators are scoring 2.71 goals per game and allowing 2.52 according to the matchup figures. That’s a better defensive picture than San Jose’s, although Nashville just gave up five to Vegas. I wouldn’t ignore that. The difference I keep coming back to is the power play. Nashville has been converting around 31.6% of its opportunities. That’s excellent early production. San Jose’s power play is around 15.4%. Quite a gap. The Predators don’t need to dominate at even strength if they’re getting a goal or two with the extra attacker. San Jose has been giving up chances, too. I’d expect Nashville to test that defense right away instead of waiting until the third period to get moving.

Nashville has been getting useful offense from its veteran scoring group. The Predators already have a three-goal scorer and a defenseman with five assists in the early going. That’s the kind of help they’ll need. The goaltending has been steadier than San Jose’s overall, although Tuesday wasn’t a great advertisement for it. Injuries are worth watching. Backup goalie Justus Annunen is dealing with an undisclosed problem, while Mavrik Bourque has an upper-body injury. William Trudeau is also unavailable. I wouldn’t call Nashville healthy, but the Predators still have enough to put a few goals on this Sharks team. Especially at home.

San Jose Sharks vs Nashville Predators Picks and Predictions

Moneyline Pick: Nashville Predators +106

I’ll take Nashville at +106. I know the Sharks were the favorite in that early listing, but I’m not buying it. San Jose just gave up six to Boston, and its starting goaltending has been shaky. Nashville’s power play is converting nearly 32% of its chances. That’s a pretty good reason to like the Predators against a team that’s been having trouble in its own end. The worry is Nashville’s offense going quiet again. The Predators have been inconsistent, and San Jose put 38 shots on Boston. If the Sharks get that many chances Thursday, they could steal it. But I’d rather have Nashville at home, getting plus money, against a team that has lost three of four. Give me the Predators.

Total Pick: Over 6.5 Goals

I’m taking Over 6.5 goals. San Jose has allowed 17 in its first five games, and Boston just put six on the board. Nashville gave up five to Vegas. Have either of these teams been making life easy for their goalies? Not lately. The Sharks can score, too. They got three against Boston and put plenty of shots on net. Nashville’s power play is another reason I’m looking at the over. If the Predators get a few chances with the extra man, they could do some damage. Now, both teams have also had games where the offense disappeared. That’s the danger. A couple of early saves could turn this into a 3-2 grind. But I don’t trust the defending enough to bet on that. I’ll call it 4-3 Nashville and take the over.

Final Picks: Nashville Predators Moneyline +106 and Over 6.5 Goals.
