St. Louis Blues vs Detroit Red Wings Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 31 2026
Detroit finally gave its fans something to enjoy Thursday night. Viktor Arvidsson scored three goals, the Red Wings beat Chicago 4-1, and now they’ve got a chance to make it three wins in a row.
St. Louis isn’t going to be an easy opponent. The Blues just beat Boston 4-1, and they’re playing better than they were earlier this month. But I’m taking Detroit at home. This isn’t one of those games where I think there’s a huge difference between the teams. It’s more about which one I trust to make the last important play.
The Blues visit Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Saturday at 1 PM ET. The Red Wings are slight favorites around -108, with St. Louis near +104. The total is 6.5 goals. I like Detroit to win and the Under. Get ready for all the action with our free NHL picks.
St. Louis Blues Have Started Finding Some Offense
St. Louis is 6-6-1, including 2-4 on the road. That’s about as ordinary a start as you can have. But the Blues have won five of their last ten games and just beat a good Boston team by three goals. That result caught my attention. Boston had been scoring all over the place, and St. Louis held the Bruins to one goal. Not bad.

The Blues have averaged 3.2 goals over their last ten games while allowing 2.8. That’s decent hockey. They’re getting enough offense to compete, and the defense has improved from some of the rough nights earlier in the season. The concern is their road record. Winning twice in six trips doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, especially against a Detroit team that just found some offense.
Dylan Holloway has three goals and eight assists, giving St. Louis 11 points from one of its more productive forwards. Jimmy Snuggerud has six goals over his last ten games. That’s the kind of finishing Detroit has to respect. The Blues are dealing with several injuries, though. Torey Krug is out for the season, while Tyler Tucker, Dillon Dube and Logan Mailloux are unavailable. Ross Johnston is also dealing with a lower-body injury. That’s a lot of missing depth, especially on defense.
Detroit Red Wings Need to Build on Thursday
Detroit is 6-4-3, including 3-3-1 at home. The Red Wings have been inconsistent, but they’ve won two straight and five of their last ten. Thursday’s 4-1 win over Chicago was exactly what they needed. Arvidsson scored three times, and Detroit didn’t spend the whole night trying to protect a one-goal lead. That’s a nice change.
The Red Wings have been scoring 2.8 goals a game over their last ten while allowing the same amount. They aren’t blowing opponents away, but they’re staying competitive. Detroit has also been allowing fewer shots than St. Louis, and that matters in a matchup where neither team has a huge offensive advantage. If the Red Wings can keep the Blues from getting second chances around the net, they’ll have a good shot at winning.
Arvidsson now has eight goals and six assists. Fourteen points, and he just put three in the net Thursday. Emmitt Finnie has four goals and four assists over his last ten games, giving Detroit another player who’s been contributing. Marco Kasper and Mason Appleton are out, while Albert Johansson is day-to-day. The injuries matter, but Detroit has enough healthy scoring to keep things moving. And after Thursday, I expect the Red Wings to come out with a little confidence.
St. Louis Blues vs Detroit Red Wings Picks and Predictions
Detroit Red Wings Moneyline (-108)
I’m taking Detroit. St. Louis has been playing better, and that 4-1 win over Boston makes this a dangerous matchup. But the Blues have struggled on the road, and Detroit has won two straight. I like the way the Red Wings handled Chicago Thursday, especially getting production from Arvidsson. The price is close enough to even money that I don’t need Detroit to be a much better team. I just need the Wings to be a little better Saturday. I’ll take them at home.
Under 6.5 Goals (-178)
I’ll take Under 6.5, although I don’t love paying that much juice. Both clubs have been allowing about 2.8 goals over their last ten games, and neither has been scoring four or five every night. St. Louis just held Boston to one, while Detroit allowed only one against Chicago. The concern is both teams carrying some momentum offensively from Thursday. If they trade goals early, this could get away from us. But I see something closer to a 3-2 Detroit win.
Final Picks: Detroit Red Wings Moneyline (-108) and Under 6.5 Goals (-178)
