St. Louis Blues vs New Jersey Devils Picks and Prediction for Thursday November 5 2026
St. Louis heads to Newark on Thursday for a 7 PM ET game against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center. The Blues just lost 3-1 to the Rangers, while New Jersey beat Edmonton in a shootout. That’s a pretty big difference in how these teams are feeling heading into this matchup. The Devils have been better overall, and they’re playing at home. I don’t see much reason to make this more complicated than it needs to be. Get into the action with all of our free NHL picks.
St. Louis Blues Need More Consistent Scoring
St. Louis is 7-7-1 after losing to the Rangers on Tuesday. That’s about as average as a record can get, and the Blues have been playing like it. Some nights they look capable of beating anybody. Other nights, they struggle to generate enough offense to stay competitive.
The Blues have scored 43 goals in 15 games, averaging 2.87 per night. They’ve allowed 49, which works out to 3.27. That’s not a terrible offensive number, but it’s difficult to win consistently when you’re giving up more than you’re scoring. Against New Jersey, St. Louis needs to tighten things up defensively.
The Rangers game showed the problem. St. Louis managed only one goal, and that’s not going to be enough against most teams. The Blues need to get more traffic around the net and create second chances. New Jersey has been playing well, and the Devils aren’t going to hand them many easy opportunities.

New Jersey Devils Have Been Tough at Home
New Jersey is 10-5-0 after beating Edmonton 4-3 in a shootout Tuesday. That’s a good win against one of the better teams in the Western Conference. The Devils have been finding ways to win close games, and that’s an encouraging sign this early in the season.
New Jersey has scored 49 goals and allowed 43 through 15 games. That’s 3.27 goals scored and 2.87 allowed per night. Those aren’t dominant numbers, but they’re good enough when a team plays with consistency. The Devils have been getting contributions throughout the lineup and haven’t needed to rely on one explosive offensive night to win.
What I like about New Jersey here is the matchup against St. Louis’ defense. The Blues have been allowing more than three goals a game, and the Devils should have opportunities to take advantage. If New Jersey gets an early lead, I don’t trust St. Louis to generate enough offense to come back.
St. Louis Blues vs New Jersey Devils Picks and Prediction
Moneyline Pick: New Jersey Devils
I’m taking New Jersey. The Devils have been better, they’re at home, and they just beat Edmonton. St. Louis is capable of making this interesting, but the Blues have been giving up too many goals and just managed one against the Rangers. I trust New Jersey to create more scoring opportunities and do a better job finishing them. Give me the Devils.
Total Pick: Under 6.5 Goals
I’ll lean under 6.5 if that’s the available number. St. Louis has been inconsistent offensively, and New Jersey doesn’t need to turn this into a shootout to win. The Devils can score, but I think they’ll be more interested in controlling the game after Tuesday’s tight contest against Edmonton. The danger is St. Louis giving up four or five by itself. But if the Blues keep this respectable, I can see a 3-2 or 4-2 finish. That’s enough for the under.
Final Picks: New Jersey Devils Moneyline | Under 6.5 Goals (if available)
