Tampa Bay Lightning vs Vegas Golden Knights Picks and Predictions for Tuesday October 20 2026
Vegas has scored six goals in each of its last two games. Tampa Bay just finished beating Vancouver 4-2, but the Lightning have a problem that keeps showing up whenever they leave Florida. They’ve played three road games and lost two of them. Now they’re heading into Vegas against a club that’s 8-2 and has been making life miserable for opposing defenses. This ought to be a good one. I just wouldn’t want to be the goalie who has to deal with all the traffic in front of the net.
The Lightning and Golden Knights meet Tuesday, October 20, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Puck drop is at 10:30 PM ET on ESPN. The total is available around 6.5 goals, although some boards are showing different numbers. The moneyline has also been moving around, so make sure you check the price before betting. Tampa Bay Lightning Need To Bring Their Home Game To Vegas
Tampa Bay is 6-2-0. That’s a nice start, but there’s something funny about the way those wins have come. The Lightning are 5-0 at home and just 1-2 on the road. They beat Seattle 4-3 in overtime Thursday and followed it with a 4-2 win over Vancouver on Saturday. Both games were in Tampa. Their last road trip to the Rangers? A 4-1 loss. And the trip before that to New York ended with a 5-1 beating. The Lightning have been a different animal away from home.
They’re scoring 3.13 goals per game and allowing 2.63. Those numbers are fine. The special teams, though, are another story. Tampa Bay’s power play is converting only 10.7% of its chances, and the penalty kill is sitting at 75%. That’s not going to make life easy against Vegas, which has been getting nearly four power-play goals for every 14 chances. Tampa Bay also wins only 47.4% of its faceoffs. It’s hard enough to defend against the Golden Knights without handing them extra possession.

The Lightning have been getting enough offense to survive the slow power-play start, but that’s not something I’d count on forever. The leading scoring group has done most of the damage, and the club has been getting help from the blue line. Goaltending has been respectable overall. Still, look at those two losses in New York. Nine goals allowed and just two scored. Vegas has been playing better offensively than either of those opponents did in those particular games. Tampa Bay needs to stay out of the box and make the Golden Knights work for their chances. If the Lightning start taking penalties, they’re asking for trouble.
Vegas Golden Knights Are Putting Pucks In The Net
Vegas is 8-2-0, and the Golden Knights have won three straight. They beat Pittsburgh 6-2 on Saturday, and that came after another six-goal performance. That’s 12 goals in two games. The club has been rolling, and it’s not just one hot line carrying the offense. Vegas has been getting contributions all over the lineup. The Golden Knights are back home Tuesday, too. Not exactly a comfortable spot for a Tampa Bay team that’s already had a couple of ugly road losses.
Vegas is averaging 4.10 goals per game, third in the league entering this matchup, and allowing 2.40. That’s a pretty healthy difference. The power play is converting 27.8%, which is where Tampa Bay could get into trouble. The Lightning’s penalty kill is at 75%, and Vegas has been making teams pay when they take penalties. The Golden Knights are also winning 52.1% of their faceoffs. Nothing fancy about that advantage. Win the draw, keep the puck, make the other guys chase it.
The goaltending has been good enough to let Vegas play aggressively without getting burned too often. A 2.40 goals-against average as a team is impressive considering how much offense the Golden Knights have been producing. Vegas can get up the ice quickly, but it hasn’t had to sacrifice much defensively to do it. The top offensive group has been creating plenty of chances, and the secondary scoring has been there when needed. Tampa Bay has enough talent to make this a close game. But if Vegas gets three or four power plays, the Lightning could spend a long night watching the red light go on.
Tampa Bay Lightning vs Vegas Golden Knights Picks and Predictions
Vegas Golden Knights Moneyline
I’m taking Vegas. Tampa Bay is a good hockey club, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this comes down to one goal. But the Lightning are 1-2 away from home, and their power play has been awful at 10.7%. Vegas is 8-2, scoring 4.10 goals a night, and converting 27.8% on the power play. That’s a pretty big difference in special teams. The Golden Knights also have home ice, and they’ve been getting enough goaltending to make their offense count. Tampa Bay can win if it stays disciplined and gets a strong night in net. I’m betting Vegas creates more chances and finds a way to finish a couple of them.
Over 6.5 Goals
I’ll take over 6.5. Vegas has scored 12 goals in its last two games, and Tampa Bay has enough offense to get two or three of its own. The Lightning’s penalty kill is the part that really bothers me. At 75%, it’s going to have its hands full against a Vegas power play that’s converting better than 27%. The Golden Knights have been good defensively, so I wouldn’t expect Tampa Bay to score five. But three isn’t asking too much, and Vegas has been reaching four regularly. The one thing that could wreck this bet is a big night from both goalies. That’s always possible. I’m looking for something like 4-3 Vegas, with a couple of power-play goals making the difference.
