Toronto Maple Leafs vs Edmonton Oilers Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 24 2026
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl put on a show Thursday night. Five points apiece against Carolina. Four goals between them. Edmonton still needed a shootout to win. That’s the Oilers for you. They can make a hockey game look like an All-Star exhibition, and somehow the other team keeps scoring too.
Toronto comes to town Saturday after beating the Rangers 5-4. The Maple Leafs have plenty of offense themselves, so anybody expecting a quiet evening at Rogers Place might want to reconsider. Toronto visits Edmonton at Rogers Place in Alberta on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET, with Sportsnet carrying the game in Canada. Edmonton is favored around -174, while Toronto is +167. The total is expected to be on the high side, although I couldn’t verify a reliable sportsbook number at the time of writing. Toronto Maple Leafs Have Plenty Of Scoring
Toronto is 6-4-2 after beating the Rangers 5-4 Thursday. The Maple Leafs needed a late goal from Troy Stecher to finish that one, but a win is a win. Toronto has scored 41 goals through 12 games, an average of 3.42. That’s enough offense to keep the Leafs competitive most nights.
The trouble is that Toronto is also allowing a little over three goals per game. That’s not what you want when McDavid and Draisaitl are waiting on the other bench. The Maple Leafs have a strong power play, operating at 27.5%, and their penalty kill has been outstanding at 97.4%. Edmonton’s power play is one of the best in the league, so special teams could decide this game. Toronto can’t afford to spend half the night in the penalty box.

Auston Matthews leads Toronto with eight goals and 18 points, including ten assists. He’s also scored three power-play goals. The Leafs need him to keep producing, especially with John Tavares on injured reserve. Chris Tanev, Miles Wood and Dakota Joshua have also been sidelined, while Marshall Rifai is listed out. Sergei Bobrovsky and Anthony Stolarz have shared the goaltending work, with Bobrovsky at a .902 save percentage and Stolarz at .897. Those aren’t terrible numbers, but neither goalie will want to face Edmonton’s top line all night.
Edmonton Oilers Can Score In A Hurry
Edmonton is 8-1-1 after Thursday’s 6-5 shootout win over Carolina. The Oilers trailed 4-2, came back, then needed Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to finish the job in the shootout. McDavid and Draisaitl each had two goals and three assists. Ten points from two players in one game. Sometimes there’s not much a defense can do.
The Oilers are averaging 4.56 goals per game while allowing 3.00. Their power play is converting 31% of its chances, although the penalty kill has struggled at 74.1%. That’s the opening Toronto has to exploit. Edmonton can score in bunches, but it also gives opponents chances. Carolina put five past the Oilers Thursday, and the Maple Leafs have enough shooters to do something similar.
McDavid has eight goals and 31 points, including 23 assists. Draisaitl has eight goals, tied for the team lead, and Evan Bouchard has 18 points from the blue line. McDavid’s 23 assists through the first ten games set an NHL record. Nugent-Hopkins returned Thursday and made an immediate impact in the shootout. Jason Dickinson, Matt Savoie, Mattias Janmark, Alec Regula and Frederik Andersen are on the injury list. Edmonton isn’t completely healthy, but the two stars are doing a pretty good job covering for everybody else.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Edmonton Oilers Picks and Predictions
Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (-174)
I’ll take Edmonton, although -174 is getting expensive. Toronto can score, Matthews is playing well, and the Leafs’ penalty kill gives them a chance to slow down Edmonton’s power play. But McDavid and Draisaitl are playing at a ridiculous level right now. Edmonton has lost only once in regulation, and the Oilers are home. I don’t love laying this much juice in hockey, but I’m not interested in betting against those two after what they did to Carolina.
Over 6.5 Goals — Price Pending
If the total opens at 6.5, I’ll take the over. Edmonton just played a 5-5 regulation game, and Toronto beat the Rangers 5-4. Both teams are scoring more than three goals per game, and both have defensive issues. The concern is that one goalie steals the show or Toronto’s penalty kill keeps Edmonton quiet. That’s possible. I just don’t see this being a 2-1 game. Edmonton 5, Toronto 3 is my call. If the number moves to 7.5, I’d pass rather than chase it.
Final Picks: Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (-174) and Over 6.5 Goals (price pending)
