Toronto Maple Leafs vs Vancouver Canucks Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 31 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/31/2026, 12:50 AM ET

Vancouver has lost ten straight games. Ten. And the Canucks have been giving up more than four goals a night during that stretch.

Now they’re facing a Toronto team that’s scored 56 goals in 15 games.

I know Toronto has its own problems. The Maple Leafs have a long injury list, and they’ve been giving up plenty of goals themselves. But Vancouver has been an absolute mess defensively, and I don’t see a good reason to back the Canucks just because they’re playing at home.

Toronto visits Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Saturday, October 31, with puck drop at 7 PM ET. The Maple Leafs are around -163 on the moneyline, and the total is 6.5 goals. I’m taking Toronto and the Over. Get ready for all of the NHL action with our free NHL picks.

Toronto Maple Leafs Can Score, but the Defense Needs Work

Toronto is 7-6-2, including 3-3-1 on the road. The Maple Leafs have been inconsistent, and Wednesday’s 5-4 loss to Seattle was another frustrating example. Toronto got four goals and still couldn’t win. That shouldn’t happen as often as it has.

The Leafs have scored 56 goals and allowed 50. That’s an average of 3.7 scored and 3.3 allowed per game. Over their last ten, they’ve been scoring 4.2 a night. That’s a dangerous offense. The problem is the defense. Toronto gives opponents too many good looks, and that keeps games closer than they should be. Against Vancouver, though, I think the Leafs can outscore their mistakes.

Auston Matthews has ten goals and 13 assists, giving him 23 points. William Nylander has six goals and seven assists over his last ten games. Those two are the reason I’m comfortable backing Toronto’s offense. The injury list is ugly, though. John Tavares, Kirill Marchenko, Max Domi, Chris Tanev and several others are unavailable. Toronto is missing plenty of depth. But Matthews and Nylander are still producing, and Vancouver hasn’t shown it can stop anybody.

Vancouver Canucks Need Something to Go Right

Vancouver is 3-11-1, including 1-5 at home. The Canucks have lost ten straight, and they’ve been getting beaten in just about every way possible. They’ve allowed 68 goals in 15 games while scoring only 45. That’s a minus-23 goal difference. It’s hard to find much encouragement in those numbers.

Over their last ten games, Vancouver has averaged 2.4 goals and allowed 4.2. That’s a terrible combination. You can survive a bad defensive night if you’re scoring four or five yourself. Vancouver isn’t doing that. The Canucks are spending too much time chasing games, and once they fall behind, the offense hasn’t been good enough to bring them back.

Brock Boeser has four goals and eight assists, giving Vancouver 12 points from one of its more dependable forwards. Jonathan Lekkerimaki has four goals and four assists over his last ten games. There’s some young talent here, but the team isn’t getting enough production throughout the lineup. Thatcher Demko is out with a hip injury, which makes the goaltending situation even tougher. Akil Thomas and Mackenzie MacEachern are also unavailable. Against Matthews and Nylander, that’s not a comfortable setup.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Vancouver Canucks Picks and Predictions

Toronto Maple Leafs Moneyline (-163)

I’m taking Toronto. The Leafs have been giving up too many goals, and that makes me a little nervous about laying this price. Vancouver could finally have one of those nights where everything goes right. But I’m not betting on it. The Canucks have lost ten straight, they’re 1-5 at home, and they’re allowing more than four goals a game lately. Toronto has the better scorers, and I think Matthews and Nylander get plenty of opportunities. Give me the Leafs.

Over 6.5 Goals (-163)

I’ll take Over 6.5. Toronto has been scoring 4.2 goals over its last ten games, while Vancouver has been allowing the same number. That’s a pretty good starting point. The Leafs also give up 3.3 a game, so the Canucks should have some opportunities of their own. The danger is Vancouver struggling to score again and leaving Toronto to do almost all the work. But with both defenses having problems, I can see a 5-2 Toronto win. That gets us over the number.

Final Picks: Toronto Maple Leafs Moneyline (-163) and Over 6.5 Goals (-163)
