Utah Mammoth vs Edmonton Oilers Picks and Predictions for Thursday October 15 2026
The Utah Mammoth head to Edmonton on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to play the Oilers at Rogers Place. Puck drop is at 9:00 PM ET. Utah just beat Toronto 5-4, while Edmonton took care of Los Angeles 4-1. The Oilers are favored around -148, with Utah getting +124 and the total at 6.5 goals. I’m taking Edmonton. But this isn’t some easy game against a struggling team. Utah is 5-2 and has been scoring plenty. Edmonton just happens to be scoring even more. Nearly five goals a night. That’s ridiculous. I think we’re getting some offense Thursday, and I wouldn’t be surprised if both goalies have a long evening. Make sure you check out all of our free NHL picks.
Utah Mammoth Have Been Putting Up Some Goals
Utah is 5-2 and has won two straight. The Mammoth beat Buffalo 4-1 on Saturday, then knocked off Toronto 5-4 on Tuesday. Nine goals in two games. Not bad. And that Toronto game wasn’t exactly boring. Both teams were trading chances, and Utah managed to finish with one more goal. That’s the kind of hockey fans enjoy watching. Coaches? Maybe not so much. Utah also opened the season with a 6-0 win over Chicago and a 4-1 victory against Columbus. So this isn’t a team that suddenly figured out how to score yesterday. They’ve been doing it since opening night. Now they get Edmonton. That’ll be a tougher test.
The Mammoth are averaging 3.86 goals per game and allowing 2.71. They’ve scored 27 and given up 19. I’ll take that start. Utah has also been pretty good at controlling play, getting more than its share of the better scoring chances. The defense has been decent, although giving Toronto four goals wasn’t exactly a great night. And Edmonton is a different animal offensively. The Oilers have scored 29 goals in six games. That’s the number I’d be worried about if I were sitting behind Utah’s bench. The Mammoth can’t spend the whole game chasing the puck. They need to make Edmonton defend, too. Fortunately, Utah has enough offense to do that.
Utah has four different players sitting on eight or nine points already. That’s what I like about this offense. One has six goals, another has seven assists from the blue line, and the team captain has eight assists. They’re getting help from all over the lineup. The goaltending has been pretty decent, too, with the team giving up fewer than three goals a game. But there are some injuries. Maveric Lamoureux is out following shoulder surgery, and Michael Carcone is dealing with an upper-body problem. That’s missing help on defense and up front. Utah has enough players to keep scoring, but this is where those absences start to matter. Edmonton doesn’t give you much time to fix a mistake.

Edmonton Oilers Are Scoring Like Crazy
Edmonton is 5-0-1 and has won five straight since losing its opener in overtime. The Oilers just went into Los Angeles and won 4-1. They were up 3-0 after the first period. Pretty much took care of business before everybody had settled into their seats. Edmonton also beat San Jose 3-1 over the weekend and has a 9-7 win against Vancouver on the books. Nine to seven! Imagine paying for a ticket to that one. The Oilers can score in bunches, but they haven’t always made things easy on themselves defensively. At least they’re getting wins. Five straight is five straight.
Edmonton is averaging 4.83 goals a game and allowing three. That’s 29 goals scored in six games. Utah has a good offense, but even the Mammoth aren’t matching that pace. The Oilers have been getting plenty of production from their top lines and their defensemen. Their power play has also been dangerous enough that Utah can’t spend the evening taking penalties. I like Edmonton at home, but I’m not ignoring those 18 goals allowed. Three against per game isn’t terrible, but it’s not exactly shutdown hockey. Utah has already scored four or more goals five times. The Oilers can’t just assume they’ll score their way out of every problem. Although, to be fair, that’s been working pretty well so far.
Edmonton’s top scorer has 17 points in six games, including 13 assists. Seventeen! Another has 14 points from the blue line, and one of the forwards already has seven goals. That’s a lot of offense for Utah to deal with. The goaltending looked good against Los Angeles, too. Edmonton’s starter made 39 saves in that 4-1 win and is now 4-0. Can’t complain about that. The injuries are worth checking, though. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is out with a lower-body injury, while Matthew Savoie and Frederik Andersen are also unavailable. Zach Hyman, Jake Walman and Mattias Janmark have been dealing with injuries as well. Edmonton has enough firepower to cover up some missing pieces. Still, I’d want to see Thursday’s lineup before making a big bet.
Utah Mammoth vs Edmonton Oilers Picks and Predictions
Moneyline Pick: Edmonton Oilers -148
I’m taking Edmonton at -148. Utah is good. I’m not arguing that. The Mammoth have scored 27 goals in seven games and just put five on Toronto. They could absolutely win this thing. But Edmonton has scored 29 in six. The Oilers are 5-0-1, they’ve won five straight, and they’re playing at home. That’s a lot going for them. The one thing that makes me nervous is Utah’s ability to score. Edmonton is allowing three goals a night, and the Mammoth have enough offense to take advantage. But if both teams start trading chances, I’m taking my chances with the Oilers. They’ve got too many ways to score. Give me Edmonton -148.
Total Pick: Over 6.5 Goals
Give me Over 6.5. Have you looked at these offenses? Utah is averaging 3.86 goals. Edmonton is at 4.83. That’s almost nine goals between them. I know it doesn’t work quite that simply, but come on. Both teams have been finding the net. Utah just played a 5-4 game against Toronto. Edmonton has already won a 9-7 game this season. The Oilers did hold Los Angeles to one goal Tuesday, so maybe their goalie gets hot again and ruins the whole thing. That’s the worry. Utah has also had some pretty good defensive games. But I don’t see either team sitting back and waiting around for one lucky bounce. I think they’ll both get chances, especially if we see a few power plays. A 5-3 Edmonton win sounds about right. I’ll take the over.
Final Picks: Edmonton Oilers Moneyline -148 and Over 6.5 Goals.
