Canucks Preview
Vancouver’s play has been inconsistent, but goalie Thatcher Demko has kept them competitive. His 2.18 goals-against average and .926 save percentage stand among the better marks in the league through the season’s first month. The Canucks average 2.58 goals per game but still sit near the bottom of the league on the power-play at 17.9%. Injuries have played a role, with Quinn Hughes and Conor Garland both sidelined. Conor Garland leads Vancouver in points with 11, and Kiefer Sherwood has been a bright spot with nine goals and two on the man advantage. Vancouver’s penalty kill, however, has been a weakness at just 71.4%, leaving Demko under pressure more often than not.
Wild Preview
Minnesota has had issues of its own, particularly in net. Filip Gustavsson’s 3.37 GAA and .892 save percentage show how often the Wild’s defensive problems have led to goals. They’ve surrendered nearly four goals per game, ranking near the league’s worst, and the penalty kill has struggled even more, sitting at 60%. Kirill Kaprizov continues to produce with 16 points and seven goals, including four on the power play, but his line can’t carry the load alone. Injured players Mats Zuccarello, Nico Sturm, and Zach Bogosian have not helped a team already low on forwards. Despite their record, the Wild’s power play remains a strength at 29.2%, providing one of the few areas where they’ve consistently created offense.
Wild vs Canucks Prediction
Both teams average 2.58 goals per game, but Vancouver’s edge in goaltending and slight advantage on defense will be the difference. Minnesota has allowed 20 goals in its last five games, while Vancouver has played better, allowing only three or fewer in four of its last five. If Demko starts, he gives the Canucks a clear advantage in net that could decide the game.
