Vegas Golden Knights Preview
Vegas begins its first road trip of the year with one of the strongest lineups in the league. The addition of Mitch Marner gives the Golden Knights another top scorer next to Jack Eichel, who is coming off a 94-point season. Tomas Hertl and Pavel Dorofeyev add more offense, and Mark Stone continues to play a key two-way role. Vegas ranked among the top five in goals and power-play success last season and returns almost the same group that won the Pacific Division.
Goaltender Adin Hill is expected to start one of the two games in this back-to-back, with Akira Schmid likely handling the other. Hill has become a steady starter after winning 32 games last season, while Schmid is trying to earn the backup role. The Golden Knights allowed few goals last year and stayed strong defensively with Shea Theodore, Noah Hanifin, and Brayden McNabb leading the blue line. Even on short rest, Vegas will be tough to beat on Thursday.
San Jose Sharks Preview
San Jose begins a new season trying to take a step forward in its rebuild. Young forwards William Eklund and Thomas Bordeleau will lead the top line with Filip Zadina, while veteran Logan Couture provides experience in the middle. Defensemen Mario Ferraro and Henry Thrun are expected to play big minutes in front of goalie Mackenzie Blackwood, who was solid down the stretch last season.

The Sharks struggled to score a year ago but improved their puck movement under coach Ryan Warsofsky. Opening against a veteran Vegas team will test the defense. San Jose will need to slow the pace and take advantage of any early mistakes from a tired Golden Knights squad.
