Jets Preview
Winnipeg’s offense has looked sharp, averaging 4.25 goals per game while limiting opponents to 2.75. Mark Scheifele leads the attack with nine points (six goals, three assists) through five games, supported by Kyle Connor’s five assists and plus-five rating. The Jets have also been excellent on special teams, converting 25% of power plays and killing off 94.4% of penalties. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has started the year at 3-1-0 with a .915 save percentage, and backup Eric Comrie’s .943 mark makes for a strong tandem. Winnipeg’s only setback is injury, as Adam Lowry, Cole Perfetti, and Dylan Samberg are all sidelined.
Flames Preview
Calgary, meanwhile, is desperate to stop the bleeding after dropping five straight. The Flames have scored just 1.8 goals per game and are giving up 3.8, showing issues at both ends of the ice. Nazem Kadri leads the team with four assists but hasn’t scored yet, and rookie Matt Coronato has two goals, both on the power play. Calgary’s penalty kill is running at 85%, but penalties have been a problem with 68 minutes in the box already. Between the pipes, Dustin Wolf has struggled (1-4-0, 3.77 GAA, .854 SV%), while rookie Drew Cooley has performed well but in limited minutes (.925 SV%). The Flames’ home ice hasn’t provided much help as Calgary is 0-2-0 at the Saddledome, outscored 8-4 in those losses.
Flames vs Jets Prediction
Winnipeg’s balanced scoring and superior special teams make them the clear favorite here. Calgary’s defense has been giving up over 30 shots per night, which plays directly into the Jets’ aggressive forecheck. Unless the Flames find their offense early, it’s tough to see them keeping pace with a Winnipeg team that’s been effective at both ends and converting on the man advantage.
