Looking at Winnipeg we see that game 4 home teams like the Jets are 0-5  off back to back road wins after losing their home opener. The Avalanche have scored 14 goals through the first 2 games. Winnipeg has done well to bounce back from a home loss to Boston with 2 road wins but this will be a tough game for them to get. Look for Colorado to get the win. GL Rob V-

Play: (ANA) Jackson LaCombe Over 0.5 Assist (+100) at DraftKings

Jackson LaCombe has started the season in excellent form, and I like him to record another assist tonight against Edmonton.

LaCombe has picked up an assist in back-to-back games to open the season, and his role in Anaheim’s offense continues to grow. He is skating on the top power-play unit and logged a massive 28:41 of ice time in his last game, giving him plenty of opportunity to get involved offensively.

This has also been an outstanding matchup for LaCombe. He has recorded an assist in eight of his last nine games against Edmonton and has an assist in five of his last six home games against the Oilers. That kind of consistent production against the same opponent is difficult to ignore.

The matchup itself also sets up well. Edmonton has struggled defensively to begin the season and enters this game allowing 4.67 goals per game, while its penalty kill has also been vulnerable. With Anaheim’s power play clicking early, LaCombe should once again have multiple chances to pick up a helper.

Edmonton is also starting Devon Levi, who has posted a 4.02 GAA and .810 save percentage through his first two starts. If Anaheim generates the kind of offense I expect tonight, LaCombe is one of the Ducks most likely to be involved in the setup.

With assists in both games this season, a strong PP1 role, heavy ice time, and an excellent history against Edmonton, I like LaCombe to stay hot.

Play: (WSH) Alex Ovechkin Anytime Goal (+205) at DraftKings

This is one of those spots where the narrative and the matchup line up perfectly, and at +205, I’m willing to take a shot on Alex Ovechkin finding the back of the net tonight.

This is Ovechkin’s final home opener of his NHL career, and it comes against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins — the rival that has been tied to so many of the biggest moments of Ovechkin’s career.

Ovechkin has also had plenty of success against Pittsburgh over the years, scoring 38 goals in 75 career regular-season games against the Penguins. He recorded a point in all three meetings against Pittsburgh last season and scored against them in Washington’s 6-3 victory late in the year.

Ovechkin is still looking for his first goal of the season, and tonight will be his first opportunity to score at home after announcing that this will be his final NHL season. In what should be an extremely emotional atmosphere in Washington, I expect the Capitals to make a point of getting Ovechkin opportunities, especially on the power play.

The price is what really gets my attention. At +205, we only need Ovechkin to score roughly 31% of the time to break even. For the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer, playing his final home opener against his biggest rival, I think that is worth taking.

Sometimes the storybook moment actually happens. Ovechkin scoring in his final home opener against Crosby and Pittsburgh would be about as fitting as it gets.

Colorado is attracting roughly 90% of the moneyline tickets. The Avalanche price has actually become cheaper, moving from approximately -190/-185 into the -180s or even -170s. The adverse price movement is worth noting, though public betting is not a factor in our moneyline handicap.

Winnipeg is 2-0-1 and has allowed only four goals across its last two victories. Stuart Skinner stopped 33 shots against Detroit, and Winnipeg then went into Pittsburgh and won 3-2. The Jets have made defending their identity and have five of a possible six points despite Connor Hellebuyck's suspension.

Colorado obviously owns the superior offensive ceiling. Nathan MacKinnon has five points, Cale Makar has three, and the Avalanche dismantled St. Louis 6-1. That's a major reason Winnipeg is available at such an attractive home-underdog price.

There is also a qualifying rest system on Colorado: road teams with at least a two-day rest advantage have gone 111-89, +14.79 units, 7.4% ROI. Colorado has the substantial rest advantage here, but that system isn't powerful enough to erase the value offered by a +155 home underdog playing well.

The Ducks knocked the Oilers out of the playoffs last April. Five of those six games finished with seven or more goals. Overall, the games in that series averaged a whopping 7.83 goals. This season, Edmonton's three games have averaged 10.3 goals. While Anaheim's two games have averaged "only" six, Wednesday's playoff rematch should produce at least seven. Go with the over.
