Free Handicapping Plays - Sports Picks from Premium Cappers

Wisconsin +20.5 against Notre Dame was one of our favorite plays from last week, and if you would have showed us the box score for that game, we would probably be waiting for you in the cashier's line. Notre Dame only out-gained the Badgers by 66 yards and four first downs, but the Irish played mistake-free football and the Badgers did not. Wisconsin's two turnovers proved too much to overcome, and the Irish showed that teams will have to play a near-perfect game to beat Notre Dame in 2026. That's probably not something the Owls have up their sleeve, but similar to Wisconsin, Rice does possess the blueprint that could help the Owls stay within this lofty number. In the season-opening win over FCS-level Houston Christian, Rice threw a total of ten passes. The Owls ran for 465 yards while going 11-of-17 on third down. The strength of the Irish defense is in the secondary (DJ McKinney returned an interception for a touchdown last week against Wisconsin), but the Owls have very little interest in putting the ball in the air. Wisconsin had the formula to compete with Notre Dame (it was a 13-10 game at halftime), but the Badgers made the back-breaking mistakes in the second half. If Rice can play A LITTLE bit cleaner, the Owls can keep this clock running like a service academy contest.

The Border Showdown has the ingredients for a more physical game than the opening-week offensive statistics suggest.

Both offenses produced huge numbers against dramatically inferior competition. Missouri quarterback Austin Simmons completed 17-of-19 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns, while Kansas rolled up 613 yards in its 51-6 victory over LIU. Kansas quarterback Isaiah Marshall threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns without an interception.

Those performances are impressive, but neither defense faced anything remotely resembling Friday's opponent. This is the first meaningful test for both new starting quarterbacks, and it comes in a rivalry environment where possessions and mistakes become considerably more important.

Missouri's offensive injury situation also bears watching. Tight end Gavin Hoffman, running back Ahmad Hardy and wide receiver Joshua Brady have all appeared on the injury report, with Hardy dealing with a leg issue. Any limitation to Missouri's skill-position depth would be more meaningful against Kansas than it was against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The market has moved decisively toward a lower-scoring game. The total opened approximately 52.5 and has fallen to 50.5, with some tracking showing the number continuing downward.

At 50.5, the implied scoring distribution is roughly Missouri 28, Kansas 23 based on the current spread. That's a reasonable ceiling for a matchup in which both quarterbacks are stepping up dramatically in competition and neither coaching staff needs to turn the game into a track meet.

Missouri's road offensive history provides additional context. The Tigers produced only 563 road receiving yards during the entire 2025 regular season, the lowest figure nationally among qualifying teams. That doesn't automatically carry into a new season with Simmons at quarterback, but it is another reason not to assume the explosive opener immediately transfers to Missouri's first true road environment.

The problem is price. The market has already taken approximately two points out of the total. We generally prefer fading significant moves rather than joining them after the value has been extracted. That keeps this below free-play status.

LEAN — MISSOURI–KANSAS UNDER 50.5

Lean UNDER 50.5. At 49.5 or lower, pass rather than chase the move.

The most important development for this total is now confirmed: Rutgers will start AJ Surace at quarterback after Dylan Lonergan was unable to practice following the injury he suffered against UMass.

Surace will be making his first career start. He played well in relief against UMass, completing 6-of-9 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown, but there's an enormous difference between succeeding in a limited relief role and being responsible for an entire road game plan. Greg Schiano said Lonergan had not practiced, with his availability potentially limited to an emergency role.

That quarterback change gives Rutgers an obvious incentive to reduce Surace's burden. Antwan Raymond is the Big Ten's leading returning rusher, and Rutgers has an experienced offensive line. A more run-oriented approach would make sense with a first-time starting quarterback on the road.

Boston College has its own reasons to favor a ground-oriented approach. Quarterback Mason McKenzie threw for 223 yards in the opener but was also the Eagles' leading rusher with 78 yards. BC finished with 388 total yards and 24 first downs against Cincinnati, yet managed only 15 points in the loss.

That combination is attractive for an UNDER. Boston College demonstrated that it can move the football, but yardage did not translate efficiently into points. Rutgers, meanwhile, is changing quarterbacks after turning the ball over four times against UMass.

The market has noticed. This total originally opened approximately 57.5 and has been driven down to 54.5, a significant three-point adjustment. Current pricing has also shown additional juice attached to UNDER 54.5.

The weather provides no reason to expect cheap points. Current forecasts for Alumni Stadium call for approximately 68-69 degrees, essentially no rain and winds around four mph. This is therefore a football handicap rather than a weather-based UNDER.

The primary concern is that we're arriving after the market move rather than before it. That's precisely why this remains a lean rather than an official free play. At the opener, the value was considerably better.

LEAN — RUTGERS–BOSTON COLLEGE UNDER 54.5

Lean UNDER 54.5. Do not chase a substantially lower number.

This is a FREE PLAY on the UNDER Rays/Braves.

Yesterday's opener snuck UNDER the number in the Rays 7-1 victory, and I believe that runs will once again be at a premium tonight in this primetime Interleague matchup.

And that's primarily because of these starting pitchers, with the Rays handing the ball to Griff Jax (6-10, 3.82 ERA), who is looking to bounce back after allowing six runs to the Mets on Wednesday. He's 3-5 with a 4.08 ERA on the road.

The Braves counter with Reynaldo Lopez (4-3, 3.64 ERA), who returns from Triple A following an injury, where he posted a 2.57 ERA and 11:3 K:BB over 14.1 innings of work.

Look for these two guys to battle into the latter frames, and as a result, also expect a lower-combined final outcome; consider the UNDER.

Foster Griffin has been extremely consistent by venue: 3.14 ERA and 1.08 WHIP on the road, compared with 3.38 ERA and 1.20 WHIP at home across his combined 2026 work. That's particularly useful today because Cleveland is on the road.

Shane Baz has actually pitched better at home as well: 3.63 home ERA versus 4.18 away. His home ERA is accompanied by only five homers allowed in 79.1 innings.

Baz's recent work is also encouraging for the Under. He held Boston to one run over 6.1 innings last time out and has a 3.06 ERA over his last three.

That means today's venue puts both starters on the favorable side of their respective home/road splits: Griffin's better road profile against Baz's better home profile. Combined with the B-grade simulation projection of approximately 8.3 runs and the favorable move from an 8.5 outlaw total to 9, this is a considerably stronger pitching case than the original writeup conveyed.

Play UNDER 9 to -120. At 8.5, require +100 or better.

The most actionable discovery is Matthews' 6.45 road ERA. That's the split I'd feature most prominently in the client-facing Minnesota–Detroit Over writeup. Second is the Cleveland-Baltimore pairing, where the venue aligns favorably with Griffin's 3.14 road ERA and Baz's 3.63 home ERA.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been excellent overall, but surprisingly he's been better away from Dodger Stadium. Still, his home numbers remain strong: 3.12 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 84 strikeouts in 83.2 innings, with opponents reaching base at only a .247 clip. His overall WHIP is an elite 0.89.

More importantly, his current form is excellent. Over his last three, Yamamoto has a 1.93 ERA and 0.91 WHIP with 26 strikeouts in 18.2 innings.

Rhett Lowder is the fascinating part. His ugly 5.43 ERA is driven heavily by his road work. He owns a 6.79 road ERA and 1.68 WHIP, versus 3.35 ERA and 1.19 WHIP at home. Today's start is on the road, which is clearly the biggest threat to the Under. His recent form is also poor: 7.20 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over his last three.

So the Under becomes much more specifically a Yamamoto-driven wager rather than a two-starter pitching play. Yamamoto's form is excellent, but Lowder's road split prevents me from strengthening the rating solely from the pitching matchup.

Play UNDER 8.5 to -120.

Bachar has a 4.93 road ERA, with 23 earned runs and 10 homers allowed in 42 road innings. Martin is substantially better at home, but he's hardly untouchable overall, and his recent workload/results deserve attention: he owns a 4.13 season ERA and has produced only a 40% quality-start rate.

Martin's latest road start was excellent — 5.2 scoreless innings at Houston — but immediately before that he had a rough stretch that included nine earned runs in five innings at Boston and abbreviated home appearances against Cincinnati and Cleveland.

The strongest new point is therefore Bachar: Pittsburgh may be using a pitcher with an attractive headline ERA, but his road performance has been materially worse than his home work. That fits much better with the B-grade projection of 9.8 runs and Pittsburgh's suddenly productive offense.

I would keep it a 3* Major rather than elevate it because of the move from the 7.5 outlaw number.

Best play OVER 8. At 8.5, require +100 or better.

Zebby Matthews' 4.69 season ERA disguises an enormous home/road split. He owns a 6.45 road ERA and 1.38 WHIP, compared with a 2.84 ERA and 1.11 WHIP at home. In 60 road innings, Matthews has surrendered 43 earned runs and 16 home runs. That's particularly relevant because today's start is in Detroit.

Matthews has pitched much better recently, posting a 3.19 ERA across his last five starts, but Detroit has already punished him this season. On June 11 at Detroit, Matthews surrendered seven earned runs, nine hits and three homers in six innings.

Keider Montero's home split is better — a 3.38 ERA and 1.09 WHIP — but his recent form is much less convincing. His last five starts have produced a 5.06 ERA, and his most recent outing was six earned runs and eight hits in four innings. His last-three ERA is 6.28.

That creates a better pitching argument for the Over than simply quoting the two season ERAs: Matthews has been dramatically more vulnerable away from Minnesota, while Montero's recent performance has deteriorated.

Combined with Minnesota's 9.65 runs per game, the 8-2 Over head-to-head record and the 8.9-run simulation projection, I like the 3* Major designation more after examining the pitcher cards.

Play OVER 8.5 to -115.

A battle of two division leaders this evening as the Rays battle the Braves in Atlanta this evening. Tampa took the first game and maintained their 4 game lead over the Yankees, while Atlanta remained 4 games ahead of Philadelphia despite the loss last night. Both teams have had excellent years and tonight's pitchers are very comparable. Jax with a 3.82 ERA while Lopez is at 3.64. Atlanta holds one of the best records in baseball at home with a 48-25 mark good for 2nd in all of baseball. Take Atlanta at a small price this evening.

This is a free play on Seattle.

I appeared on a handful of shows in the lead up to Super Bowl LX, and I told everyone who would listen that the Pats were Fugazi. They had the #30 ranked strength of schedule, and they played a banged up Chargers team, a banged up Houston team, and the Broncos backup quarterback on their road to the Super Bowl. Seattle had the #4 ranked strength of schedule, and they played the best teams in the NFL and still came out on top. They had the league's best defense, with little doubt or argument to be made. So what has changed? Kenneth Walker is gone, and Charbonnet is out with an injury. Jadarian Price and George Holani will fill that gap, and that is a significant downgrade. The defense is still intact for the most part, and Darnold still has an All Star cast of receivers. Super Bowl champs are 16-5 SU in their Week 1 game the following season over the past 21 years. This line has come down a bit, perhaps public money coming in on the Pats? More East Coast Bias?

While the only mystery left for the Angels is if they can keep from recording 100 losses for the first time in franchise history (they’ll need to go at least 8-9 the rest of the way to stop at 99 losses), there have been other interesting recent developments amid all of the Halos' incessant mediocrity.

Starting pitching has been shockingly good the past few weeks, continued by Reid Detmers in last night’s 6-1 win, and Wednesday starter Ryan Johnson has a 1.00 ERA in his last three starts, while Yusei Kikuchi and Walbert Urena have also fared well lately. The offense, however, has been held to three runs or fewer in 13 of the last 17 games, another good reason the Angels enter tonight “under” in five straight. Play Angels-Red Sox “Under”

So. In Vegas. Out to Hawaii. Now in North Texas. That is some travel to start the year. Especially when you can't get your offense going. Completely fell apart vs Memphis. 248 total yards vs the Rainbows. I think North Texas can win this thing in ugly fashion. GO UNDER the total.

The Wednesday Comp play comes in soccer as we are going over 4 goals in the Slovan Bratislava at Paris Saint Germain match. PSG is at home here in League Phase Champions league play and may cover this on their own as they are -3.5 on the spread and have a plethora of fire power. They have had some struggles in league play and lost 2-1 here to AS Monaco on Friday but there is a significant gulf in talent here and Slovan who are the Slovakian League Champs earned their way into this round with wins over Iberia and Swedish Mjalby. They come in off a 2-0 loss in Domestic action and while they have a good striking squad they will struggle to contain PSG, they will likely find the back of the net though as this game plays over the total. Play: (LAR) Davante Adams Over 52.5 Receiving Yards (-110) at DraftKings

Davante Adams enters this matchup coming off another productive season, recording 56 or more receiving yards in 11 of 17 games last year. He also had success against San Francisco specifically, finishing with 88 and 77 receiving yards in his two meetings with the 49ers.

That success against San Francisco goes well beyond last season. Adams has recorded 77 or more receiving yards in six of his seven career games against the 49ers, showing a long track record of producing against this defense.

The status of Puka Nacua is another interesting factor in this matchup. Nacua is questionable but expected to play. If he is active, San Francisco will have to devote plenty of defensive attention to one of the league's most dangerous receivers, which could create more favorable one-on-one opportunities for Adams. If Nacua is unable to go or is limited, Adams would likely see an increased target share instead.

With Adams clearing this receiving-yard range in 11 of 17 games last season, posting 88 and 77 yards against San Francisco, and recording 77+ receiving yards in six of seven career games against the 49ers, I am backing Davante Adams to go OVER his receiving-yard total.

Play: (NE) Drake Maye Over 232.5 Passing Yards (-111) at DraftKings

Drake Maye opens the season with a familiar opponent, facing the same Seattle Seahawks defense he saw in the Super Bowl. Despite New England losing that game 29-13, Maye still threw for 295 passing yards, showing he was capable of producing through the air even with the Patriots struggling to put points on the board.

Maye was also remarkably consistent as a passer last season, clearing this passing-yard line in 14 of his 21 games, a hit rate of 66.7%. Now he gets an immediate rematch against a Seattle defense he just threw for nearly 300 yards against on the biggest stage.

Another factor to monitor is the status of TreVeyon Henderson, who enters the game questionable. If Henderson is unable to play or is limited, New England could become more reliant on Maye and the passing game, potentially increasing both his attempts and overall passing-yard ceiling.

With Maye clearing this number in 14 of 21 games last season and throwing for 295 yards against Seattle in the Super Bowl, I am backing Drake Maye to go OVER his passing-yard total to begin the season.

(I would take this up to 239.5)

Take San Francisco (#453)

When we talk about NFL games played thousands of miles from home, we can expect some randomness.  When two division rivals with Super Bowl upside battle in Week 1, we can expect maximum intensity.  Put those two factors together and I’m not interested in laying points with the favorite; not even maybe.  For the LA Rams to be priced this high — as more than a field goal favorite against a playoff caliber foe on a neutral field — it tells us already that the betting markets are simply too high on Sean McVay’s squad to open the season.  This has all the makings of a ‘somebody is going to win this game bon a late score’ type of battle.  Catching more than three points with the underdog makes perfect sense to this bettor!  Take the 49ers.

Take Seattle - New England OVER (#451-452)

The Patriots offense was upgraded this offseason, good news for New England supporters considering that a weaker offense than this one carried the Pats to the Super Bowl last year.  The Pats upgraded at WR in a big way with the additions of AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs, two legitimate playmakers.  And the Patriots offensive line, too, is both healthy and upgraded; bad news for a Seahawks defense likely without impact starting safety Nick Emmanwori.  New England could be without stud defensive end Christian Barmore as well, good news for Sam Darnold and the Seahawks passing game.  The Super Bowl cashed Under bets, but this Week 1 rematch is primed to cash Over bets!  Take the OVER.

ThIs is a free play on 1H Under.

Seattle won SBLX by a score of 29-13, and it was 9-0 Seattle at halftime. The Seahawks had the #1 defense in the NFL last year, allowing just 17.2 points per game. New England had a soft schedule, but they also had a Top 5 scoring defense. We should see a defensive battle in the first half on opening night.

PSG are -2500 favourites, Draw at +1500 and Slovan +3500 underdogs, with the Spread at 3.25 and the Total at 4.25. I don't really like neither the spread nor the total, but I found a way to turn that -2500 ML into something playable:

PSG have not started the season well, they did win their first match of the season in a 2-1 against Aston Villa for the UEFA Super Cup, but have been unable to win since then with a 1-0 loss to Lens in the French Super Cup final, a couple of 2-2 draws against Rennes and Lille, and most recently a 2-1 home loss to Monaco.

Don't look too much into those results, PSG are known late-bloomers, and keep in mind that these players haven't had a proper off-season in at least two years. Most of their players were on national team duty in the 2026 World Cup and last season they went deep in the Club World Cup too, so there's accumulated fatigue and some injuries involved. They are looking to hurt somebody right now and get their season back on track, and up against them is lowly Slovan Bratislava who are always weak, especially on the road.

Expect PSG to come out with guns blazing from the first half and get the job done in a confident manner. Not sure if they keep a clean sheet here, as their defense has been troublesome so far, but they can definitely score 4 on their own - for context, last season they thrashed Atalanta by 4-0 in the Champions League opener.

After all, PSG are reigning (and back to back) Champions League title-holders, so anything else than a big-margin, confident win against one of the weakest teams in the competition would REALLY start creating problems, so I don't see that happening.

Tulane should be able to beat South Alabama by double-digits. The Green Wave should be one of the better teams in the AAC while the Jaguars are likely to be in the bottom half of the Sun Belt. The Jags may have won big against Southeastern Louisiana but they're still a bad team on both sides of the ball. Tulane has won three straight in the series. Last year's game at South Alabama was close but the last meeting here at Tulane was not. The Green Wave won by 20. Look for the Green Wave to pull away for another decisive victory. *good at -10 or better

The Border Showdown produces a compelling Friday-night underdog case, but not enough to warrant premium status.

Kansas is getting nearly a touchdown at home in a rivalry game after Missouri won last year's renewal 42-31 in Columbia. Both teams opened with FCS opponents and dominated, so neither team has faced anything remotely resembling Friday's opponent.

Missouri quarterback Austin Simmons was outstanding in his debut, completing 17-of-19 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns. Kansas answered with 613 total yards, including 336 passing and 277 rushing, in its 51-6 opener.

The value case begins with the number.

A respected preseason market analysis specifically identified Kansas +7 as one of the Week 2 numbers worth taking early. The current market is +6.5, so most of that value remains intact.

Independent quantitative analysis also makes Kansas +6.5 the preferred spread side, projecting approximately Missouri 28, Kansas 24.

There is additional high-grade model support for Kansas +6.5, with the matchup receiving an A grade.

The public component reinforces Kansas. Broad betting consensus currently has Missouri taking the majority of spread selections, making the home underdog the contrarian side.

That's particularly useful because public underdogs deserve extra scrutiny in our worldwide contrarian indexes; here the public is doing the opposite and laying points on the road favorite.

Kansas also gets genuine situational motivation. Missouri won last season's rivalry game, and this is the first Border Showdown back in Lawrence. Kansas has no realistic lookahead issue capable of superseding this rivalry.

The current market remains around Missouri -6.5 with a total near 50.5. There has been nothing resembling a major two-point side move or key-number crossing.

Free play: KANSAS +6.5.

Rutgers qualifies in multiple profitable league-wide road-underdog situations.

One system isolates unranked road underdogs of 1 to 3.5 points in regular-season games with totals of at least 46. It has produced a 596-461 ATS record — 56.4% — and +88.9 units. Rutgers +3.5 fits at the edge of the qualifying range.

A related early-season small-road-dog angle is 514-390 ATS — 56.9% — for +85.0 units.

There is also a meaningful contrarian component. Multiple broad consensus pools currently have substantially more selections on Boston College than Rutgers.

The matchup itself is more competitive than Boston College's home-field narrative suggests.

BC lost 34-15 at Cincinnati, but quarterback Mason McKenzie had 223 passing yards and 78 rushing yards. The Eagles actually accumulated 388 yards and 24 first downs, so the offense wasn't as poor as the final score indicates. The glaring problem was allowing 254 rushing yards.

Rutgers now has a quarterback decision after Dylan Lonergan threw three interceptions against UMass, with AJ Surace completing 6-of-9 for 77 yards and a touchdown in relief. Whichever direction Rutgers goes, establishing the ground game against the BC front should reduce the burden on the quarterback.

The major drawback is the price has deteriorated dramatically. Boston College opened around -6.5 and the market has crashed to approximately -3.5, a three-point move that crosses through several important numbers.

We generally prefer attacking a number before such movement instead of paying for it afterward. The systems and contrarian profile still support Rutgers at +3.5, but the lost line value is substantial.

There is another downgrade: teams coming off a loss as a massive favorite have historically struggled to rebound in this situation. Combined with the major line move, that's enough to keep Rutgers strictly in the free-play category.

Free play: RUTGERS +3.5.

This misses stronger systems status by the narrowest possible margin.

A powerful league-wide angle says favorites of at least 31 points with totals of 55 or lower are 273-169 OVER — 61.8% — for +87.1 units and a 17.9% ROI.

Louisville is roughly -35.5, but the widely available total has moved to 55.5, putting the game half a point outside the exact system qualification. If 55 or better appears, the play becomes considerably stronger.

Louisville's offense provides the fundamental support. In Lincoln Kienholz's first collegiate start, he threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns, rushed for another 69 yards and a score, and committed no turnovers. Tre Richardson produced touchdowns of 30 and 62 yards, and Louisville scored 32 second-half points against No. 9 Ole Miss.

Villanova isn't devoid of offense. Pat McQuaide threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns against Bucknell, both to Braden Reed, and Ja'briel Mace rushed for 70 yards.

Louisville is on only five days' rest following the emotional 41-38 Ole Miss loss, which is one reason not to lay an enormous number. The Cardinals also have SMU next. Those same situational concerns can be friendlier to an OVER: Louisville's offensive talent can separate quickly while the defense may not receive maximum attention during a short preparation week.

Weather currently projects as a non-factor with very light wind.

Free play: OVER 55.5. At 55 or lower, the systems value becomes significantly stronger.

The market itself has created the value.

Miami opened around a 49.5-point favorite and has been pushed as high as -53.5, while the total has climbed from roughly 56.5 to 60.5. That four-point total move is significant enough that we prefer selling the inflated number instead of buying after the move.

Florida A&M managed only 161 total yards against South Carolina State on Sunday and now has the almost absurd task of playing Miami four days later. FAMU's offense isn't merely facing a talent gap; it is doing so with almost no normal recovery or preparation cycle.

Miami allowed Stanford only six points in its 45-6 opener. Darian Mensah was spectacular — 27-of-30 for 401 yards and five touchdowns — but a game with a spread above 50 creates obvious second-half clock, substitution and game-management issues. Miami can dominate without necessarily forcing the game into the 60s.

The number is the attraction. We would have had little interest in UNDER 56.5. At 60.5 after a four-point move, the equation changes.

Free play: UNDER 60.5.

The market originally dealt approximately 45.5 and has dropped to 44.5. Rather than chase the move downward, the better value is now on the other side of it.

A respected simulation model independently reaches the same conclusion. After 10,000 simulations, it projects 46 combined points and recommends Over 44.5. New England and Seattle were both among the NFL's highest-scoring offenses last season, and the Patriots materially upgraded Drake Maye's supporting cast with A.J. Brown and additional offensive-line help.

New England averaged 28.8 points per game last season, while Maye now has a true physical No. 1 receiver capable of creating completions without requiring extended protection. That is relevant against a Seattle defense that sacked Maye six times in the Super Bowl: quicker contested completions to Brown provide an answer New England did not possess in February.

Seattle's backfield is different because Kenneth Walker is gone and Zach Charbonnet is unavailable, leaving rookie Jadarian Price in a prominent role. That creates uncertainty, but it may also force Seattle to place more responsibility on Sam Darnold and the passing game instead of recreating Walker's 27-carry, 135-yard Super Bowl performance.

There are injury concerns that prevent upgrading the total. New England defensive tackle Christian Barmore, running back TreVeyon Henderson and offensive lineman Ben Brown did not participate on Sunday's injury report. Henderson's ankle is particularly relevant to New England's offensive ceiling, while Barmore's absence would weaken the Patriots' interior defense.

Weather should not interfere. The Seattle forecast calls for mild temperatures, light wind and minimal precipitation risk.

The number has moved far enough to create value, and the independent scoring projection supports the buyback.

The case for New York starts with the fact that the Jets may be considerably better than their ugly 3-14 record from 2025 suggests, while Tennessee still has major structural problems to solve around Cam Ward. New York finished last season with an NFL-worst -203 point differential, but its defense experienced an almost unprecedented lack of turnover production, forcing just four takeaways and becoming the only NFL defense in modern history to go an entire season without an interception. That type of extreme turnover drought is highly unlikely to repeat, and the Jets aggressively addressed the problem by adding All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, veteran linebacker Demario Davis, defensive tackles David Onyemata and T’Vondre Sweat, plus No. 2 overall pick David Bailey, who recorded 14.5 sacks in his final college season. Bailey is especially important because New York finished 31st in sacks last season, and his explosive first step gives Aaron Glenn the type of edge presence his defense lacked. The offense should also have a much higher floor with Geno Smith replacing the failed Justin Fields experiment and veteran coordinator Frank Reich taking over the play-calling. Smith does not need to be a star in this matchup; he simply needs to distribute the football efficiently to Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, first-round tight end Kenyon Sadiq, and rookie receiver Omar Cooper Jr. without putting the defense in bad positions. Smith as a stabilizing bridge and Reich as a steadier offensive hand, which is important after New York ranked 31st in EPA per pass last season. The Jets also strengthened an offensive line that PFF ranks substantially ahead of Tennessee's entering 2026, giving Smith a better chance to operate comfortably and allowing New York to lean on Hall and Braelon Allen against a Titans defense still undergoing a major transition.

Tennessee, meanwhile, was not merely unlucky in 2025—it was consistently overwhelmed, particularly early in games. The Titans posted an average scoring margin of -11.4 points per game, ranked 29th in first-half point differential at -106, and were -179 through three quarters, 30th in the NFL. Those numbers are particularly concerning against a Jets team that should be able to generate pressure and play from more favorable down-and-distance situations than it did last year. Ward finished his rookie season 31st in passer rating, 31st in completion percentage, 33rd in yards per attempt, and was sacked a league-high 55 times; the underlying problems included inaccurate throws, sacks, fumbles, drifting in the pocket, and a tendency to resort to hero ball when protection broke down. Tennessee attempted to protect Ward last year by investing heavily in the offensive line, but the unit still surrendered 56 sacks, the sixth-most in the league, and enters 2026 ranked near the bottom of PFF's offensive-line rankings. Brian Daboll should eventually improve the structure around Ward, and Robert Saleh should make the defense more respectable, but expecting all of those changes to immediately erase a massive talent and execution deficit is asking a lot. Tennessee was also one of the league's most undisciplined teams, accumulating 130 accepted penalties, ranking second in penalty frequency and posting the NFL's third-worst penalty margin, another major concern for a young team trying to operate efficiently. New York, by contrast, spent the offseason adding veteran stability, improving the offensive line, upgrading its pass rush and attacking the exact turnover weakness that made its 2025 defense look worse than it probably was. The Jets do not need Geno Smith to carry them here; a controlled offense built around Hall, complemented by a rejuvenated defense capable of pressuring Ward, provides a very favorable matchup against a Tennessee team that still has substantial weaknesses up front.

With New York possessing the stronger offensive line, a deeper collection of proven skill talent, significant defensive regression potential, and a favorable matchup against a quarterback who struggled badly under pressure, grab the point(s) with the Jets as Jeff Keim's Free Pick Winner for Sunday, September 13.

2% Cam Ward Over 0.5 Interceptions (1:00 ET): This is a prop bet I talked about throughout the summer.

Last season, the Jets became the 1st team in NFL history NOT to record a single interception during the entire regular season. Call me "optimistic," but I think they'll record at least one in 2026. In fact, I think they'll intercept Titans' Cam Ward in Week 1.

Ward only threw seven interceptions all of last year, his rookie season. Considering he had the 8th most passing attempts in the league, that INT number actually wasn't bad. But I think, in his second season, the Titans' offense figures to be a bit more aggressive and there's a likelihood more mistakes will be made.

End of the day, positive turnover regression is coming for the J-E-T-S. The defense did record three interceptions in the preseason. With WR Carnell Tate being the Titans' top draft choice, Ward is going to air it out more this season. I see him tossing it to the guys wearing green at least once in this game. 2% Cam Ward Over 0.5 Interceptions (Play to -120)

Emotions and intensity will be high in Chestnut Hill on Friday night as Boston College welcomes Rutgers for the annual Red Bandana Game, which happens to fall on the 25th anniversary of September 11. Neither the Scarlet Knights nor Eagles got off to a desirable start this season. Rutgers was soundly beaten 37-21 as a 30-point home favorite and had to pay UMass a reported $1.55 million in the process. Boston College lost 34-15 at Cincinnati against a Bearcats team that was replacing a lot of production lost from last season. We're struggling to justify a total in the mid-50s with two quarterbacks that left a lot to be desired in their Week 1 performances. Boston College should have a pretty good idea how to defend Rutgers' starter Dylan Lonergan after he played for the Eagles last season. Lonergan finished with three interceptions last week against UMass and Rutgers generated 1.2 yards per rushing attempt against a Minutemen team that hadn't won a game in nearly two years. Things didn't go much better for first-year Boston College QB Mason McKenzie in his debut against Cincinnati. The D-II transfer finished 18-of-35 for 224 yards with one touchdown, four sacks and an interception against a Bearcats defense that figures to be a middle-of-the-road outfit this season. We’re willing to give the Rutgers’ defense a SMALL pass for last week’s performance against UMass, simply because the Knights didn’t know what to expect from a Minutemen offense that was essentially a mystery heading into the season. With an emotional atmosphere expected, both defenses should be flying to the ball. After the performance of both quarterbacks in Week 1, we expect both coaching staffs to keep things relatively simple in the passing game as to limit the number of mistakes that each signal caller can make in this contest.

Independiente del Valle will look to make use of the home advantage in the altitude of Quito (9,350ft) when they will host Flamengo in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals. It's hard to go against Flamengo in any situation, but the home side are not to be taken lightly.

Independiente del Valle are in tremendous form right now (W17 D1 L1), with a W16 D2 L2 record at home in 2026, and a W4 D0 L0 record in the Copa Libertadores. Doing extremely well in their domestic league too, where they are already 22 points ahead in the title run, with the playoffs right around the corner. Their priority right now is this match, and they know that the second leg in Brazil is going to be hella difficult, so they must take an advantage now.

They are W2 D1 L0 in 3 H2Hs as hosts against Flamengo, with Flamengo also being in good form right now with just 1 loss in L/17 matches in all competitions (W12 D4 L1). However, they won just 2 of L/5 on the road (W2 D2 L1) and just 4 of L/9 (W4 D3 L2).

They are locked in a title battle with Palmeiras in their domestic league, so they can't really overlook that, with a tricky match against Corinthians waiting for them in the weekend. They will surely want to take a manageable result back to Brazil for the second leg of this tie, but matches at such an altitude (especially against good teams) are NEVER easy.

Historically, Independiente del Valle have lost just 3 of 15 home matches against Brazilian teams (W8 D4 L3) and Flamengo have won just 5 of 13 away matches in Ecuador (W5 D2 L6) and none in this venue.

Baltimore got rid of HC John Harbaugh & brought in Jesse Minter for the new season. The change was questioned around the league as one would have thought that Harbaugh had accomplished enough to be able to leave on his own. But, that wasn't the case and with a completely new coaching staff, I think that the Ravens could take a minute to get everything clicking perfectly. Before he got hurt, Indianapolis was very dangerous when Daniel Jones was playing last year. Alec Pierce has also gotten the green light for the opener. Against a mediocre defense from last year, getting a field goal here at home is a gift. Go with the Colts.

Take Houston (#464)

While the recreational bettors fall in love with their favorite quarterback when it comes to betting Week 1 of the NFL, experienced pros know that getting stops – the better defense – is every bit as important as having an elite QB.  The Texans defense is better than the Bills defense on all three levels; one of many ‘depth concerns’ issues that Buffalo has after signing Josh Allen to his fat long term contract.  I trust Houston to get a key fourth quarter stop far more than Buffalo -- so crucial in this pointspread range -- just like they did last year when they held Matthew Stafford and the Rams to 14 points in Week 1.  This time around, however, I expect the Texans revamped offensive line to hold up; a game I expect them to win.  That said, I’d rather take the point and a half here ‘just in case’ of a tight finish -- the moneyline payout simply isn’t worth it.  Take the Texans

Washington went 5-12 last year, and I’m not buying a three-win jump.

Jayden Daniels played only 7 games in 2025 and dealt with a knee sprain, hamstring injury and dislocated elbow. He also led all NFL quarterbacks with 8.3 rushing attempts per game. After 148 carries as a rookie, his style continues to expose him to significantly more contact than the average QB. Durability has to be priced into this number.

Washington also replaced both coordinators. David Blough takes over the offense and Daronte Jones takes over the defense, and both will be first-time NFL play callers.

They’ve added some names on defense, but per PFF, only 2 projected defensive starters carry grades over 70. This was a bad defense last year, and I’m not convinced the makeover fixes it overnight.

They also have only 8 true home games, with the Colts “home” game being played in London, and they open @ Philadelphia and @ Dallas.

Looking at the first 11 games, I project Washington to be favored in only 1 or 2 of them.

I don’t need Washington to be bad.

Coming off 5 wins, with Daniels’ injury history and rushing workload, two first-time play callers, a questionable defense and this schedule, 7.5 is too high.

David Montgomery OVER 7.5 Rushing Touchdowns (+116):

The Houston Texans traded an offensive lineman and two draft picks for David Montgomery and followed that up by upgrading his contract. Montgomery has cleared this line in each of his last three seasons (8, 12 & 13) while playing with the Detroit Lions despite splitting carries with the highest paid running back in the league in Jahmyr Gibbs. Joe Mixon is out of the picture, and he handled 89% of the RB carries in 9/14 starts last season including two games with 100% of the workload. Woody Marks is the only man standing in the way and he wasn't overly impressive in his rookie campaign. The Texans are favored to win the AFC South, and they have an elite defense that will lead to favorable game scripts where Monty will see carries while protecting the lead.

Over the last ten seasons, the Jets have averaged 4.9 wins per year and they have only gone over this 5.5 win total three times. You can point to injuries and in-season trades as a big reason why last season was a failure, but we now have a ten-year sample size of this being one of the worst organizations in the NFL. Geno Smith was brought back to the franchise after a disastrous run in Las Vegas with the Raiders, but we're struggling to see the upside. The Athletic just released a comprehensive QB ranking that was voted on by coaches and front office personnel. Smith was voted as the 30th-best quarterback heading into the 2026 season. One defensive coordinator was quoted as saying, "He looked terrible on the film we saw." Another defensive coach put more blame on the Raiders' system around him, saying "Once you get hit and keep getting hit and hit and hit, how good are you going to be? They had no identity on offense. Geno got a bad rap. He was getting murdered out there." That's fair, but why is there any reason to believe things are going to be any better with this team? Head coach Aaron Glenn was retained, but nearly every assistant coaching position was flipped after last year’s 3-14 campaign. Frank Reich has been brought in to lead the offense, but Reich hasn't coached in the NFL since 2023 when he went 1-10 with the Carolina Panthers. Bill Musgrave was hired as the quarterbacks coach. Musgrave was the Browns' QB coach last season and Cleveland had arguably the worst offense in the NFL. We're really struggling to see how the Jets are going to double their win total from three to six this season. It's not like this team was knocking on the doorstep and suffered a couple heartbreaking losses along the way. They finished with a -203 point differential, allowed the second-most points in the league and suffered eight double-digit losses. When the NFL schedule was released, DraftKings released opening point spreads on every game for every team for the upcoming season. The Jets are not projected to be favored by more than a field goal in any game this season, and only five games have a point spread between -2.5 and +2.5. So in order to eclipse this win total, the Jets would have to go 5-0 in those toss-up games (vs Cleveland, Las Vegas, Arizona and Miami x2) and still would need to pull another upset along the way. We don't see that happening.

The 2026 NY. Jets Team Preview and Totals Wins Prediction

The 2026 Jets are now in their second season under Coach Aaron Glenn and after a dismal 3-14 record. The Jets made several upgrades on both sides of the ball. Most Notably, they bring back aging former Jet Quarterback Geno Smith. While he is not the ideal guy for this team which is on the younger side, Geno can Sling it and while he may wind up throwing as many picks as Touchdowns the Jets should find the end zone more often and move the ball. They have an Improving offensive line and are bringing back starting Running back Breece Hall and star Wide out Garrett Wilson who appears healthy after an injury that saw him miss most of the season last year. The Jets also drafted the ultra athletic Tight end Kenyon Sadiq who can lineup in the slot and get down field and give the Jets a whole different look. Sadiq should be ready for opening day despite an early injury They also drafted a solid Wide out in Omar Cooper who will be a big threat both deep and on the tertiary routes. On Defense the Jets added perhaps the best player in the draft in David Bailey who is a solid edge rusher and has a high motor. He should make an immediate impact along with a solid free agent signing in Tvondre Sweat who will stabilize the defensive line. The Jets brough back Demario Davis as well as Star Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jarvis Brownlee the the defensive backfield. This defense should be much better than expected and with the Jets having a decent offense they should not be out on the field all day like years past. The Jets will likely go Over the 5.5 win total this year as they have made several changes and should benefit from playing the 5th easiest schedule this year. Last season they were last in creating turnovers and with the defensive upgrades this season they will be far better off this season. Finally, The Patriots will likely regress a bit off the big bounce back season and Miami is not expected to be very good this year, so the Jets may get some rare divisional wins, even at 2-4 in divisional play they could get 6+ wins. While we wont go as far as a Playoff spot the Jets could get 7+ wins this season. Gl this season Rob Vinciletti

The Browns have beaten Jacksonville three straight times. However, their last meeting was in 2024. Jacksonville was the much better team last season and is expected to be again this year. The Jaguars were 13-4 last regular season and 12-4-1 against the spread. (Remember, they were just 4-13 in 2024.) The Browns were 5-12 on the season, 8-9 ATS. The Jags were 10-2 against AFC teams. The Browns were 2-10. This year, the Jags are projected to win 8.5 to 9.5 games while the Browns are expected to win 5.5 to 6.5. The Jags have the majority of their offensive starters back. The Jags also had the best run defense in the NFL last season, allowing an average of only 85.2 rushing yards per game. They were the only team in the league to hold opponents under 90 yards on the ground. The Browns have a new coach and numerous question marks. They may improve this year but it's unlikely to happen immediately. I've got the Jags winning by double-digits.
