The PLAY: Brandon Marsh Bases Over 1.5 (-102) Action
Toronto's Max Scherzer is scheduled to make his first start in nearly two months on Wednesday after a lengthy stint on the IL. Over the past two seasons with the Blue Jays, Scherzer has missed time because of injuries to his thumb, forearm, elbow and ankle. The 41-year-old's body is breaking down as the sun sets on his career, and he will be facing a tough lineup in his return to the big leagues. The Phillies as a whole struggled through the first month of the season, but Brandon Marsh has been the lynchpin keeping this lineup afloat. Marsh is hitting .332 this season with a 47.9-percent hard-hit rate. So far in the month of June, Marsh is hitting .419 with five extra-base hits. Marsh ranks in the bottom-10th percentile among all hitters in walk rate this season, so he only has one path toward getting on base and it involves hits. Scherzer's fastball looked good in his two rehab starts in Triple-A, but he continues to have a massive problem with home runs in the latter stages of his career. Prior to going on the IL, Scherzer allowed seven home runs in 18.2 innings pitched. He gave up a home run against the Worcester Red Sox in his last rehab start over the weekend. All seven of those home runs that he allowed earlier this season came at home at the Rogers Centre. Oddsmakers are only asking for -102 juice on a total bases prop that Marsh has cleared in six of his last eight games.
