KenPom has Towson rated as the better of the two teams here and I happen to also concur with that assessment (Coastal is a wide open league). Coming off an impressive 69-57 win and cover (as 6.5-point home favorites) over Stony Brook earlier this week, the Tigers should get the job done again this evening at Monmouth.
Since conference play began, Monmouth has arguably been the Coastal's best defensive team. But KenPom still has Towson rated 50 spots higher on that end of the floor (for the entire season). It was a great defensive effort Thursday vs. Stony Brook, whom the Tigers held to 34% from the field (including 23% from three).
Monmouth has one of the worst offensive ratings in the league (254th) so, even at home, they are not a likely candidate to crack this Towson defense. I say that knowing full well the Hawks are coming off a 91-71 win at Drexel. Can you say regression? That win was a byproduct of an outlier 1H performance. Prior to that game, Monmouth's previous two wins were by a TOTAL of three points.
