The PLAY: Utah Mammoth -1.5 (124)
We're still trying to figure out how the Canucks won 8-6 at Denver vs. the Avs on Wednesday, but no logical explanation besides it being an outlier result. Vancouver was back in normal form on Thursday in a 5-2 loss at St Paul vs. the Wild.
Needless to say, this season hasn't gone as planned for first-year HC Adam Foote. With only 52 points, Vancouver is 16 points beneath the next lowest team (Chicago on 68), and the Canucks' -91 goal differnece is 36 worse than the next lowest (the Blackhawks again).
On a 6-25-3 skid covering almost half of the season, the campaign can't end soon enough, and Kevin Lankinen tries it again in goal tonight after getting a rare win by stopping only 24 of 30 shots in Denver. Across February and March, however, he was 1-9-1 with saves only at .866. He was also routed by Utah the last time he faced the Mammoth on February 2, stopping only 13 of 19 shots faced. Utah, off back-to-back 6-2 wins at LA and Seattle to begin this road trip, look solid for the 7th West seed in the playoffs if it can continue this uptick a couple of more games. Note Dylan Guenther the hot goal-scorer with three across the past three games. We go Puck Line here Mammoth -1.5 and use +124, the best available on the marketplace in the overnights, but we wouldn't back off of Utah -1.5 unless the price drops beneath +110.
