The PLAY: Detroit Tigers 108 Action
Any excitement in the Twin Cities these days might be generated by the NHL Wild, or perhaps the NBA T-wolves (though fans are getting a bit impatient at the on-and-off status of Ant Edwards). The Twins? Something to watch after the NBA and Stanley Cup playoffs complete and before the Vikings hit training camp.
As the locals worried, the offense is starting to show signs of losing steam, as after a few encouraging displays went completely flat the past two days at Target Field against the Rays, scoring a mere one run in each while losing both to Tampa Bay. As for ace Joe Ryan (slated for tonight), he somehow managed to miss the Tigers in his 31 starts last season, and comes in off of a poor showing at Kansas City when allowing five runs and nine hits in just 4 IP during last Wednesday’s loss to the Royals.
Meanwhile, Detroit’s Casey Mize was 3-1 in his starts vs. Minnesota last season, and is off of six solid innings last Tuesday at Arizona, allowing just 1 runs and 4 hits while striking out 9, though the bullpen blew the lead when permitting the D-backs to score six times in the 8th inning. The relievers will be called upon again tonight in Minneapolis but this time will be facing a slumping offense. We use the Tigers at +108 which looks good value, and invoke the “.10 rule” to stick with Detroit as long as the price doesn’t move more than .10 (down to -102). Play Tigers on Money Line
