The PLAY: Arkansas Little Rock +2.5 (-115)
This is a horrific spot for UT Martin. Not only are they laying points on the road, just two days removed from a crushing OT loss to SE Missouri, but tonight will also be the Skyhawks' fourth game in the last seven days! All have been close games and Tuesday's 56-53 home defeat to SEMO was particularly damaging. SEMO has now swept the regular season series, which means they hold the tiebreaker in the race for the #1 seed in the OVC Tournament.
Anytime you finish with just 53 points in a game that went to overtime, it was obviously an awful shooting night. Such was the case for UT Martin on Tuesday. The Skyhawks shot just 28% from the field against SEMO (including 4 of 23 from three) and had a 16-point first half! A second half rally ultimately proved futile and UT Martin has now dropped three of its last four overall. They lost 61-55 to Morehead State and 75-74 to Lindenwood before an 81-76 win over SIU Edwardsville.
I think it's going to be very difficult for the Skyhawks to put Tuesday's loss behind them. Furthermore, they've now played four consecutive close games and come out on the short end in three of them. For a team that's battling for first place in its conference, UT Martin has some bad offensive numbers. They rank 311th in 3-point percentage, 339th in FT% and turn the ball over way too much (top 10 rate in the country). Now I understand that Little Rock has dropped 7 of 8 themselves, but they only lost by 3 at UT Martin earlier this month.
