| CBB | (627) Ohio at (628) Massachusetts: Spread | 7:00pm EST - Mar 3/2026 |
The PLAY: Massachusetts -1.5 (-110)
UMass has dropped six in a row and all of a sudden is in danger of missing the MAC Tournament (only top eight qualify). They would have the head-to-head tiebreaker over Central Michigan (by virtue of a 95-89 win back on February 3rd). This will be the Minutemen's final game of the regular season and it's at home, facing an Ohio team in a giant lookahead as the Bobcats host unbeaten Miami OH on Friday.
Three of these six straight losses for UMass were games that went to overtime. They led at halftime in all three of those games, twice blowing double digit leads! So, fair to say, this losing skid does not feel like an accurate representation of the team. UMass is still rated ahead of Ohio both in KenPom and my own power ratings, so I absolutely agree with the Minutemen being favored here and would actually make the number closer to -4.
I may be an Ohio graduate, but objectivity is the name of the game here and my alma mater should feel fortunate that they're in position to finish Top 6 in the MAC standings. I have the power rated as the 8th best team in this league. It was a bad loss to Toledo over the weekend (79-67 as 1.5-point chalk) and with an eye likely on Friday's home finale vs. their unbeaten rival, makes a lot of sense to fade the Bobcats here against a desperate UMass team that's home and playing with revenge for a 3-point loss earlier in the season.
