What was a "Hollywood blockbuster" last season is quickly deteriorating into a "box office bomb" as the Ryan Reynolds/Rob McElhenney owned Wrexham is a lot closer to relegation than they are promotion in this year's Championship. The club currently sit 19th in the table with just one win, four draws and two losses after seven league matches. Last weekend marked a new low as the Red Dragons were scorched 6-0 by 1st place West Ham.
The task gets no easier for Wrexham this week as they host a Southampton club that would be top of the table if not for being docked four points due to last season's cheating scandal. Even with that four-point deduction, the Saints are prime candidates for promotion at season's end. Of the other 23 sides in the Championship, only West Ham have scored more goals through seven matchweeks. Southampton's only loss of the season was the league opener, 2-1 at Watford.
