We missed the plus money, but the line has steadily moved in Cortez’s favor — and for good reason. This should be one of the more competitive and intriguing fights on the card.
Wang Cong enters with serious momentum, winning her last three bouts. She’s the cleaner, more dangerous striker on paper — elite speed, legitimate kickboxing pedigree, and steadily improving takedown defense. Since her lone professional loss, she’s looked far more patient and disciplined, making her much tougher to pull into deep waters or unfavorable positions.
Cortez, meanwhile, is coming off a tough loss to Blanchfield but remains a veteran with a very clear path to victory: relentless pressure, wrestling, and top control. She’s at her best when she’s chaining takedowns, wearing opponents down in the clinch, and racking up control time. If Cortez sticks to that blueprint and refuses to get drawn into a kickboxing match, she can neutralize Wang’s primary advantage on the feet.
Wang actively campaigned for this matchup on social media to accelerate her climb up the division. That kind of callout should light a fire under the more experienced Cortez, who thrives when she can impose her will physically.
We’re siding with the veteran grappler here.
